A LOOK AT THE GREAT LUBA EMPIRE! CONGOLESE PRE-COLONIAL KINGDOMS SERIES EP1

Hello family!
Welcome to our first episode of the Congolese Pre-Colonial Kingdoms series! Sit back as I tell you the story of the great Luba Empire. The Luba Empire emerged in the late 1500’s in Southern part of the modern-day Democratic Republic of Congo. The area where the Kingdom emerged is called the Upemba Depression and there have been archaeological findings that prove that this area has been inhabited almost continuously since the 4th or 5th Century. The Kingdom was founded by King Nkongolo Mwamba and it thrived for a while before long-distance trade started and ultimately led to the downfall of the Kingdom. I would like to encourage you to research more about the Kingdom as this video is not enough to describe it. As you all know, I loveee sharing Congo with you and this video is a step forward in familiarising you guys with the country. It is important that we know our history!! I hope you enjoy and I hope this video inspires you to do your part in changing the image of Africa. As always, your thoughts are welcomed, so feel free to put them down in the comments!

I am African American but I have an ancestral connection to the Congo, including Katanga. I have a DNA match who is Muluba. Thank you for giving us information about the people of the Congo. This is fascinating.

We learn very little about pre-colonial Congolese history in Belgium, which is a shame. This series is very interesting!

Hi, I'm from Karukera (Guadeloupe, Caribbean) and I was watching your video to learn about my African history 'cause they don't teach us what we should be teached at school.
I learn that in our langage in my island, a lot off the world we speak are from bakongo or kikongo and another langage I forgot, so I thought I ought to start learning about the Kongo Kingdom first.
(For instance we have words like "moun", "biten",etc)

Thanks for the video, the dance, the music and everything you shared. I learned a lot . The fact that you know how to speak the langage and are directly related to the Luba people you're talking about is awesome! You're so lucky to know where you come from and to know your culture...

I have a question: what about the Women in the Kongo kingdom? In your explanation, the only people who seem to exist are men.If it weren't for the woman on the photo of bambudye people, it would seem like they were instinct.
I am really curious to hear about how life was for them in the differents part of the Kingdom, and if they Could have power like the Candaces ...What life was for them specifically.

And again I am really happy to hear all these explanations from a sister! Know that your presence on youtube doing what you do as a Woman is much appreciated, and definitively makes a difference!

Thank you for this history lesson. My mom's DNA showed Luhya/Luyia. I was intrigued because I didn't imagine there would be east African ancestry. You provided a great clue as to how or why. Deeply appreciate your presence on the net sis. Keep producing great content.
