A webinar with Elaine Ruth Fletcher (Editor-in-Chief) and Kerry Cullinan (Africa Editor), Health Policy Watch

If you do not have a lot of experience covering the World Health Assembly (WHA) and other major global health events, it can be difficult to decode their operations and to figure out how statements become backed government actions of global importance.

Similarly, covering major agencies that provide guidance on key global health issues, such as UNICEF and USAID, can also be confusing.

Elaine Fletcher and Kerry Cullinan are veteran reporters. They are quite conversant with the global health policy landscape. They are best positioned to provide insights into global health and the Geneva ecosystem.

Based in Geneva, Fletcher is a veteran news correspondent as well as a former editor at the WHO, where she co-founded and managed the BreatheLife campaign on air pollution, climate and health. Fletcher also served as a managing editor for the UNICEF/UNDP, World Bank WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), reporting on trends in diagnosis and treatment of malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and other neglected diseases of poverty, as well as issues of access to essential medicines and health technologies.

Cullinan founded and ran Africa’s first independent nonprofit health news agency, Health-e News, for 14 years. She is also the health editor for openDemocracy, a global online platform.

At this webinar, they will be providing insights on how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted global health. They will also be providing guidance on how journalists can track and report global health policies that are of relevance to local audiences.
