Adam the rough surface on the spine of the blade is purposefully left that way to aid in the use of a fire steel rod.

Just great arent they. Ive owned so many knives and I always come back to my moras. Theyre dead-sharp, they handle great and you dont mind putting them to use or even loosing them cos theyre cheap too. You could probably get four or five for the price of a single good grindstone.

I think its a new trait they never used to be like that in the old days as I recall - but maybe its just being rustique and showing the craft like

@YTONTHEMOON So you can see how sharp the blade is. Only very sharp knifes can cut smooth into paper.

i got mine a while ago but the back seemed to be messed up like uneven sort of like yours is that typical?
