Mystery Behind the Windows 11 24H2 Update 8.63 GB Cache Bug May be Solved | MS Says a Fix is Coming

Disk cleanup and Storage settings attempt to remove the update cache files, but they cannot, with the Windows Update cleanup cache continuing to take up to 8.63GB of storage.

Finally an explanation of the update cleanup. My insider feedback did not get any up votes I thought It was just my PC (currently on 26100.2152 sfc is fixed)

I have found the answer. The temporary files doesn't have an issue, it's because of the new checkpoint updates in Windows 11. The updates from now on are smaller & are required to use files that are already on the system & can't be deleted & they are very large.

Makes sense, the possible mystery. 24H2 is not offered on my machine yet. Even though I am a bit of an enthusiast, I’m in no hurry to force upgrade.

i have same issue on my laptop. THE WINDOWS UPDATE CACHE IS SO BIG UNTIL MY C:\ DRIVE IS AROUND 88MB OF FREE SPACE.

Yes my PC is having sfc /scannow and clearing storage sense issues as well after upgrading to windows 24 H2 🤷‍♂

So after watching the latest Chris Titus video Chris has found that Recall will indeed be insatlled on every computer that is running win 11 24H2. It is integrated into the file explorer and made a dependency. We're supposed to be able to disable it an opt out but it turns out some process from it will still be running in the background even when it's disabled. Chris Hasen't yet figured out what those background process do exactly. It will not be uninstallable. So it appears Microsoft lied yet again.
