In this brand-new series we take a closer look at the bikes we at BikeRadar are riding, many of which have become a test bed for exciting new cycling tech.

Despite the lockdown here in the UK, the BikeRadar team are always thinking about what bike to ride next and what new project can they get stuck into.

Obviously we’re living in strange times, but in the spirit of keeping us all connected, we’re going to catch up with some of our sorely missed colleagues, where they will go into more detail into some of the interesting bikes they have been riding and customising.

From Matthews new Shimano GRX testbed Genesis, to Jack’s Surly fixed gear shred wagon, and Tom’s £3000 exercise bike! You’ll hear about them all. You’ll also hear about the very special bike from Joe, which he actually bought with his own money!

Love that Surly Steamroller! Exactly my kind of bike.

That Surly is the most hipster thing since smashed organic avocado on gluten free sourdough toast.

I have a Surly Bridge Club, and I just love it! It's a 2018, and I love the strength of this bicycle. Thanks for your Surly review!

Steamroller!! I think that’s my favorite bike right now, rolling with 35c terreno dry tires and getting lost in the woods a lot. I’m loving the simplicity, have a feeling it’s gonna get a lot more miles than my other bikes this summer. #bikeradarbuilds

The Colnago! I have an even older C40 Colnago, fantastic bike! Model year 2003 and no problem to fit 25mm tires. Currently my favourite bike even though I have newer and more expensive ones in the garage.

Love that Colnago 😍 I've got a 2003 Trek OCLV 5200 USPS which I have built up with a 5800 gruppo and some 30mm Cero wheels.

Levers on the Conalago need to be adjusted – there is a pin on the top of the lever that adjust reach - that helps you take the wheels out

Cool video! On the colnago, looks like the brake levers are set on the wheel release mode. You need to move the metal cylinder back in the right position. That's why the levers looks so far away from the bars. Cheers

The colnago is awesome! The sort of thing I do to get what I want out of a road bike

Love the Surly. I'd run it SS to be able to coast where I ride though. Can't beat the look of a simple steel hardtail/full rigid bike.

Also have owned and loved a Surly Krampus, Karate Monkey (SS), Ice Cream Truck, Wednesday and Pugsley (SS). Durable and value packed with great astheics.

I'm riding a NOS Specialized Allez sport aluminum frame from 1997 built with Tiagra 4700 and Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels. Everything was bought cheap/used locally and the bike was finished for under $500. I had to sell my 2019 BMC when I lost my job due to the pandemic so I wanted to build something up on a budget. #BikeRadarBuilds

I have two bikes down from the rafters. A fatbike (I'm in Canada) and a 2008 Kona Paddywagon (Dedacciai chromoly) SS with a 36/16, Continental Twister narrow cross tires, and Brooks Swallow saddle with Brooks leather tool bag. Very smooth ride. Beautiful bike.

I came here entirely for Jack's passionate defence of his ridiculous Surly.
It is ridiculous, and fixed gear ruins my knees, but seeing the routes he does on that has encouraged me to take my 90s MTB on similar adventures (I even just stole a couple of his routes of strava).

I loved the colnago, but I think it could be made better by giving it a pair of campagnolo zonda or shamal wheels.
