Overture To 'Colas Breugnon' (AMV/CMV)

Показать описание
Twentieth Century Nicoville returns with another fun and frolicking overture, set to the different scenes of great cartoons and anime. A blend of the comic and the tragic ina fitting piece written for the 1938 opera composed by Dimitry Kabalevsky, "Colas Breugnon" (The piece was composed in 1937). The opera follows the story of a fictional Burgundian optimist named Colas Breugnon set in 16th-century, and follows him through scenes of a siege, a riot and fire. The libretto was based on the book written by French author Romain Rolland, and celebrates the comedy and tragedy of life, including plauges, donkesy, and flourishes.
Not a lot of Americans know of the opera, but many orchestras and wind bands play the overture many times, as Hunsberger describes, “The orchestral colors are in a class of their own, ranging from overwhelming fortissimos to chamber effects to raucous splashes of wind and percussion energy.” The overture is the most famous of all the pieces in the opera, and has been performed since its introduction in the states by Arturo Toscanini and the NBC Symphony in 1943. In this setting, the feeling remains the same, the comedy and trauma amplified ten-fold by various comedic antics and tragic backstories. And now, without further ado, enjoy the Cartoon Company in the Overture to "Colas Breugnon"
