Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs)are quickly becoming the new standard for day to day measurement of blood glucose when managing diabetes. The G6 and the G7 are the most frequently used models within the Dexcom brand of CGMs. In this video, PA David discusses 10 of the biggest upgrades implemented in the G7 and how these differences translate into the diabetes patient experience. Also discussed are three features that have not changed with the most recent upgrade.

You sir are a true hero, being a brittle diabetic and having a high of 700 while in Cleveland clinc and a low of 18 while in Fl., I salute you in making the transfer to the G7 from G6 easy to understand, , THANX Again Bob With A B

With the G6 I wear it both on my abdomen and upper arm and now with the G7 I wear it both on the abdomen and upper arm plus in the last two months I have been using the chest also. I have found that the chest, in my case, has shown to be very accurate. Great video I do agree with all you said during your video. I would have also mentioned that both the G6 and G7 may be inaccurate the first 12 to 24 hours if in doubt do a Finger stick.

Hey, I’m a newly diagnosed type 1. I have watched a bunch of your videos and I found it a great resource to becoming knowledge about how to manage diabetes and the tech that helps.

Can you make a video geared towards the family and friends of T1d? Like a video meant to educate them of what they may have to deal with, how to react, essential life saving things, etc. All these videos are great for diabetics because there is so much information but for family and friends a really boiled down version explaining and hitting the major points I feel is really necessary as a newly dx’d t1d.

Thanks and I love your content!

Thank you! Your video was extremely helpful…I had a partial pancreatectomy almost 12 years ago, for a very large tumor. My A1C was WNL for years but now, my glucose has been very difficult to manage. My doctor has recommended CGM…after checking with insurance, they cover dexcom G7 & the CGM accucheck CGM made by roche. There is little info on Roche CGM. Think I’m going to go with dexcom G7 as I suspect I will need an insulin pump in the future…thanks again

I love the G7. I have been on a pump for about 25y. This new tech is amazing, easy to use and has a 20+/- in accuracy. I was just in the hospital and found this to be true. On the regular is was 10 or below what the hospital meter read. I was thrilled to say the least!
Warm up times seem to take less that 5 minutes for me, and being a brittle diabetic, this is invaluable!! The sleeker design is wonderful and I have yet to have one be torn off by clothing. There really isnt any difference in where I wear it. Im using the back of the arm right now but will test other areas.

I got laid off 3 months ago and without benefits…. I cannot afford the meds, strips etc… Those with benefits, be thankful. This disease is a “pay-or-die” disease!

I hear people complain about the receiver. I cannot overstate the use of this. Anytime there’s an account problem with the Dexcom app or online account, you can use the receiver wired and upload it to the endocrinologist. It’s also much lighter and more convenient than the iPhone.

I’ve always had a problem getting things to stick to my skin. I’m T1 since 1978, on a pump since 1998, and Tandem X10/Dexcom G6 since 2016. To keep infusion sets and sensors attached I’ve tried overlays, surgical tapes, and a variety of skin prep and glues none of which ever worked. Duct Tape did work but causes intense irritation☹️. Finally I tried Ostomy Adhesive Glue which does work quite well but can be difficult to apply to a sensor or infusion set. Applying it to an overlay is not hard and 90% Isopropyl cleans it up quite effectively. That the G7 comes with the overlay is great, cutting overlays out with scissors is actually is quite difficult and time consuming. I bought punch device to cut overlays for my infusion sets, and it looks like it will work the G7 as well!😊

With the g6 my sugar goes crazy during warmup. I just got my g7 this week. I can't wait to try them. I'm using a t-slim pump with my dexcom. My a1c went from 9.6 to 7.1 with the use of a pump and dexcom sensor.

Thanks for the video and all the rest. It should also be noted that to use this with a pump requires the use of the number in white print and underlined for Tandem hopefully they will change this to make less confusing. Thanks for a great video and all the information you have provided.

Hi! Do you know if there is a difference in the notification features? I really like the notifications for high sugar levels.

Had g6 never was able to keep from knocking it off within the first month, so I stopped..G7 have not had that issue, probably because you seldom touch back if arm but you always touch your core, only issue is early g7 antennas strength was hit or miss, newer sensors much better but will still have periodically signal loss if you bump device…over all great! Went from 9.8 to 5.4 a1c in little over a yr… big fan

i HAVE A DEFINITE LOVE HATE WITH MY g6. hOWEVER, TELLING ME i DON'T NEED A FINGER STICK IS CRAZY (SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS) I have had exactly one sensor give me a correct reading out of the box in over 3 years. I don't even bother trying to calibrate in the first 24 hours. Also I can't even count how many sensors died prematurely. HOWEVER, when it works, it is GREAT! I have learned more about my blood sugar in the last 3 years then I had in the previous 50 years.
