Tamils equate caste system with scourge. Tamils also equate caste system with Hindu religion which is synonymous with Sanatana Dharma.
Caste system  = Hindu religion  = Sanatana Dharma  = Scourge.

However Hindus equate Hindutva with Hindu religion/ Sanatana Dharma.
For Hindus, Hindutva = Hindu religion = Sanatana Dharma.

Clearly Tamils and Hindus both equate Hindu religion with Sanatana Dharma. The distinction is that; for Tamils caste system is same as Sanatana Dhama because caste system exist only in Sanatana Dharma and there is no other example of caste system being followed under any other religion neither in past nor at present. Therefore caste system is unique to Sanatana Dharma. Tamils abhor caste system and want to eradicate it. Essentially this implies that Tamil religion is not same as Hindu religion.

The terms Hindu and Sanatana are not mentioned in the original religious texts. In the texts only the term Dharma exists and it is used in the sense and context of righteousness.

Hindu word has Persian origin and has been losely used to describe the civilisation that lived to the east of Sindhu river. This may be in use for less than 2500 years. While Sanatana word is an adjective used to convey that the Dharma existed from time immemorial and it is everlasting.

Tamil culture: Made up of Tamil language, Tamil tradition and customs.

Tamil religion: Is synonymous with Dravidian religion/culture. It is an ancient belief system involving Gods, temples, mythology, rituals, festivals etc.

Evidently the equations adopted by Tamils as well as the Hindus are different and they are false and concocted in each case such that the equations shape their political narratives. The two narratives confront each other and intend to malign the other.

Cast system exists both in Tamil religion and Hindu religion. Politically both ideologies are in fovour of caste based reservation etc benefits.

Why Tamils and the Hindus are at the logger heads when both follow essentially the same religion with caste system?
Both groups accept that caste system is a social ill and to be gotten rid of.

Hindutva is a political ideology of the Hindus and not for the Tamils. Likewise Dravidian basis is the political ideology of the Tamils. Hindutva is rightist ideology i.e. Conservative, while Tamils subscribe to leftist ideology i.e. Liberal.

Liberals are opposed to Conservatives. Therefore Tamil liberals are opposed to Hindutva. When Hindutva is equated to Sanatana Dharma then liberal Tamils oppose Sanatana Dharma and Hindu religion.

Let noble thoughts come from all sides and lead from darkness to light.
