While visiting the production of House of the Dragon's second season, Adam learns the various ways that dragon fire is practically created using different types of flamethrowers and custom fire rigs. Special effects technician Julian Butterfield walks Adam through a series of demonstrations ranging from a backpack flamethrower to a rig that uses 50 liters of fuel in one blast!

I feel like Adam was looking at that forklift flamethrower rig and thinking to himself “Man, I wish we had built something like that on Mythbusters…”

I just love that the guy igniting the dragon fire is named Alistair.

3:1 diesel to gas is the ratio we used when making drip torch fuel when I was a wildland firefighter. We used it to light controlled burns. So basically, we were dragons. Cool!

We repurposed a fire extinguisher to make this flame thrower

I cannot get over how good Adam is with interacting with guests on anything he's in, especially in this almost-interview-like style, he always finds a thing to genuinely connect with them about and seems to really do his best to help them show it to a camera while also enjoying the explanation himself

What an impressive set up. The drones with flamethrowers are gonna be terrifying.

Its funny seeing this being used again like this. I remember Reign of Fire using this very type of thing for their dragons back in 2002.

That sounds like the coolest job you can ever have: "oh, I make giant flamethrowers to simulate dragon fire for this huge show"

That was awesome. I love when two nerds who have passions for each other’s craft. I doubt I’d understand much but I could listen to you two talk for hours. Adam you are so humble. Thank you sir.

In college (~30 years ago) we found out the coffee creamer trick. We also tested and found out that CoffeeMate brand was too high quality to burn, so we would raid the Hardee's for their off-brand cheap stuff. Then we'd hide closed packets around friends apartments for them to find later. They ask "why are you trying to burn my place down?" Of course it would never burn in a sealed packet. Sprinkling it lightly over a flame gave just enough air to produce a nice, safe(ish) fireball.

6:46 is no joke. I remember at Maker Faire 2009, when I was there for doing the demo of the Hackerbot Labs quarter shrinker (which can be seen at v=9UOFrqxD5C8, where I'm visible in some portions), there was a dragon sculpture, that had fire probably a bit smaller than what this forklift is doing, but still pretty big... And I was far enough away from it that I could have measured the speed of sound by it, because I'd feel the heat on my face, as the Infrared Light got to me almost instantly, and then later I'd hear the sound. Wild.

You can prevent the freezing on the tank-side by submerging it in a trash can filled with water.

For gigantic ones fired in bursts, an old fire extinguisher as an intermediate tank gives it more punch and helps against "water hammer" when repeatedly, quickly closing the magnetic valve.

The slo mo shot of the big breath travelling along the ground is 👌

Having never watched anything GoT, after the intro sneak peek, I had immediately thought that I wouldn't expect a biological would create such a sooty, smokey flame. So *how perfect* for me when they *_immediately_* addressed that! 😅

We all know Adam's next one day build. LMAO. Within 24 hours of Dragons breath video, Adam is vacuum forming parts for a flame thrower.

This won't end well.

Serious MythBusters Vibes here. You just need Jamie in
the background going "Yeah."

The mention of coffeemate reminded me of one of the most impressive explosions on mythbusters, which seems fitting!
