Honestly getting from the “new experiences” phase to the “good at it” phase takes a lot of guts, particularly in adult years. Especially when you are self learning. This goes for a lot of new hobbies, specifically any that might require practicing in public or anywhere you might be perceived by somebody else during that beginner phase, like for example learning a loud instrument.

Learning park etiquette when I was 11 was bitter sweet because nobody thought I was a poser but some did think I was a dumb little kid getting in their way 😂
16 years later I make sure I’m not the a-hole yelling at newbies/kids at the skatepark.
You have to teach the new gen for them to learn better.

when i was six, i stood at the edge of derby park and watched skaters skate the whole park in a single run. figuring out when to go and how to not get in the way is learning a language!!

the sound of boards hitting the ground for claps or props of someone landing something is such a core memory. we love seeing sick lines or tricks especially after many tries.

That’s the beautiful part though. You being curious on how things work that you then try out, and you convey yourself on how you feel about it. Then, you just keep learning new things. Learning is so damn fun and interesting.
