It was the host that said Malec has no chemistry, not Dom (30:35) He didn't say that they're not a couple. He questioned how they can be a couple just a few weeks after meeting (29:10 - 29:40). Remember Simon had only been a vampire for 2 weeks when he became a Daylighter, which is the same day Alec professed his love for Magnus outside the Institute. They knew Simon less than a week before he turned and if only two months have passed on the show, then Malec is just 4-5 weeks into their relationship. You can't say they've built a solid relationship in that amount time. He's right that they're not solid YET. Some say he's being a hypocrite because Clace happened fast too. He probably feels the same way about Clace but they asked him about Malec.

"In two months they met and they fell in love... but they don't know enough about each other to be a thing yet". Excuse me, but the same thing could be said about Clary and Jace.

Fans are not forgetting anything... Of course we know there are plenty of things they still need to know about each other. When have we said the opposite?

Why did Dom get so much hate about the Malec thing? What he said is true. They don't know everything about each other, after the first date Alec was just about ready to leave, but stays and wants to know more about Magnus. So I do agree that both Malec and Clace aren't a thing yet. There emotions may be real strong, and Alec and Magnus may love each other; but there is still a lot for them to learn.

And as for Clace, the lust is strong. It's a connection that can't be overlooked.

I just don't understand the hate.

really enjoyed this episode. Loved seeing Magnus as a kid and his dark past being revealed to Alec was nice. Also seeing Aline introduced and Sebastian's true identity finally revealed was great. Also Valentine talking to Jace more about their past together and how he found Jace.

Not gonna lie I don't particularly like how Dom talked about Magnus and Alec's relationship. Sure, they haven't known eachother for ages but to say that 'malec isn't really a thing yet' and 'how can they be a couple if they dont know this and that about one anohter'...like, malec is very clearly the healthiest, most established relationship on this show right now that can be a couple WHILE learning things about eachother.

My concerns about what Dom said:
1. Why does being in a healthy relationship HAS TO mean you know everything about your partner? You're supposed to learn things while you're in a relationship. You grow together and learn more about each other. You don't have to know the person for years in order to be with them and have a chemistry.
2. Dom says he doesn't believe in love at first sight but he said a while back that jace fell in love with clary from the first episode and he can't get her out of his mind since then? that makes no sense.
3. If a relationship in this show is the healthiest it is malec. Clace is definitely not a healthy relationship.

Dom is one to talk when jace not only ditched everyone for clary but treated Alec like s**t cause of her and also didn't jace admit he had already fallen in love with clary before season 1 even ended and he barely knew her, does he honestly think he knew her long enough to make her #1 priority over everyone including his parabatai and already be in love with her, umm I'd say no but he wants to mouth off about malec, things with relationships are rushed on this show, that we can agree on but the fact that he thinks he can talk about malec when clace is practically in the same boat as far as being rushed into things without really knowing each other is hypocritical, I like dom but he needs to know when and when not to speak on things and this was one thing he shouldn't have spoken on and miss thing talking about malec's chemistry, they've always had chemistry from the very beginning regardless of how they relationship developed so she can swerve with that

I am not here to shit on Dom. That is his opinion and I have mine, I just don't understand why he says they are "not a thing yet". Maybe he didn't choose his words well. He says they have so much to discover of each other, yeah but It doesn't mean they can't love each other. I agree about his statement with love at first sight tho, however Alec and Magnus have been attracted to each other from the very first moment and because they got to spend time together they've fallen in love. I still think the "I love you" was too rushed and maybe Dominic got a problem with that but it doesn't mean they are not a thing. About the chemistry. That girl seriously needs to watch the cocktail scene (1x06) which is my favourite Malec scene to this day (the 2x15 morning scene is a reaaally close 2nd). I do think the showrunners mess up Malec scenes here and there but they are still the best couple with the most chemistry on this show. And yes, Magnus is so much more interesting character with his hundreds of years behind him than to get sidelined or be the "pet warlock" of the shadowhunters. I have got a lot of problem with the writing of this show and could talk about it for hours.

Matthew and Harry have great chemistry. I personally think Malec has the best natural chemistry on the show, far more than Clace does. I wish the Malec haters would stop spinning around what Dom inferred because he was applying double standards in saying they Malec could not be a real thing yet.

Okay, after listening to what Dom said, I kind of see where he's coming from. However, fans are taking issue with the fact that he said Magnus and Alec "are not a couple yet." Like they're boyfriends, so they kind of are. Yeah, there's still a lot to learn about each other. People don't just read about their partner in a book or something to know all about them. And of course this relationship is different than real life in that Magnus is immortal, so he's going to have lived more than Alec. Alec can't possibly learn everything about Magnus. But I don't think Dom's right to say that Malec aren't a couple.

ngl what dom said confused me.. like when he said that he didn't belive in the love at first sight thing, but yet in a recent interview he said that clary and jace has been in love since they've met. It's like he's contradicting himself. And when he said “they don't know enough about each other for malec to be a thing” that was just a mess...

and wtf was that interviewer saying about malec not having chemistry when they first met.. they weren't in love but they definitely had chemistry

I feel like Malec is a different case from the other couples or ships due to Magnus' age. He is hundreds of years old, and has so much life experience' of course Alec isn't going to know him all that well in two months the same way Jace and Clary or Simon and Izzy would get to know each other in the same amount of time.

I get what Dom is trying to say but I guess not everyone agrees and i only partly agree, too, which shouldn't be a problem. 
1. Dom talked about people growing to love each other.- true in real life, difficult in TV shows though because of timeline, nobody wants seasons and seasons about discovery and nothing really happening. 
2. Malec isn't a thing.- ??? they are together, that's a fact, they can still not have everything figured out, BUT they are still a couple, they have little screen time, which is bad for development  
3. They don't have chemistry at the beginning. - personal view, I think there was attraction and a connection AS Dom talked about when developing a relationship.
I think everything they examplified on Malec also applies to Clary and Jace. Maybe I am biased, because I don't really care about Clace but I ship Malec. Nevertheless I feel like Dom isn't really smart in his word choice. It comes of as him criticising Malec and degrading people (for example Harry and Matt as actors) who worked hard on portraying the ship. But people also need to calm down. It's a fictional ship and story. Dom is a real human, don't be mean or disrespectful.

So l heard what he said and I think I understood what he was trying to explain: He feels like bc of the fact that Magnus Is very ancient, and there's a lot of him left to discover and that part is just now being open to Alec's eyes, and since this is Alec's first relationship, he is going to make mistakes with certaint stuff. Like it's not that they don't have development or chemistry, but is more of they having so much stuff yet to learn about each other and figure before they get to the happy forever couple. Like at this point both of them have been so honest, supportive and loving with each other. I do think Dom use the wrong world when he said "to be a couple or to be a thing yet", because they are a couple and a thing, but it is still very new for both of them, sooo mucchh left to figure out, agree and disagree on like any other relationship. I hope I made myself clear. Please no hate. I don't believe anything Dom says he does it with a bad intention or with hate, he's not that kind of person. And honestly, If he has analyse this about Malec, is because he does cares about how they grow as a Couple❤️
We are human beings something we don't make ourselves clear and explain incorrectly what we are trying to say and can be taking out of context and turn into something different, let's just LOVE AND RESPECT EVERYONE

Honestly everyone made this a big deal about what he said and people explained it to me and the way they said it made it sound like he totally dissed them however now that I watched it I totally agree and don't get me wrong I'm a malec fan but what he is saying is true as I am not a romantic I'm a realist
