Charlotte Rampling's Scene in Vanishing Point

This brilliant scene featuring the incredible Charlotte Rampling was cut from the US version, but was left in for the UK version. I love this scene very much. I hope you do too. You should watch the whole film, it's superb. This scene doesn't spoil the film at all. I just love it. I am also rather fond of Charlotte Rampling too...

So of course she must be the angel of death. She doesn't tell her name, yet she says I'll tell you later. She's been waiting for him everywhere and for a long time, patiently. I keep going back to all the scenes in the movie where it takes you back to his motorcycle crashes, car crashes, surviving the war, and all of his Daredevil stunts. All those times he avoided death and all those times she was waiting for him, but never got him. So she waited patiently until this point (Vanishing Point). That's pretty damn deep!!

It’s a shame this scene was cut, it adds another layer of mystique and symbolism. I saw it when it came out in ‘71 and have watched it many times. It is a masterpiece and stirs me every time I see it. Thx for posting

Her eyes are almost hypnotic and they just pull you in until you can't look away. Great scene even without knowing the context it has/would have had in the movie.

Thank you for posting this. One of the few times in American cinema the filmmakers should have kept the deleted scenes in. Apparently, the U.K. version does include them.

Apparently, this particular scene with midnight hitchhiker Charlotte Rampling as the symbolic 'angel of death', was omitted from the original box office American release of this film, but was included in the British release. Which is disturbing, because this small scene was so relevant to the storyline of the movie and was brilliantly done. It's one of my favorite movie scenes of all times.

For anyone who has the theatrical version without the deleted scene, i recommend you watch the movie to the scene where "Kowalski" hangs up the phone on "Jake" his dealer friend. Then PAUSE the movie as "Jake" hangs up, around 1 Hour 29 Minutes or so.

Then watch this deleted scene, then UNPAUSE the movie 👍
