Rockstar Games will release Grand Theft Auto 5 and a stand-alone version of Grand Theft Auto Online for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on March 15 — new and native versions of the game with additional graphical and gameplay enhancements. While the PS4 and Xbox One versions of GTA 5 are playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X, respectively, the new versions are a separate purchase, and are not a free upgrade.

GTA 5 and GTA Online for PS5 and Xbox Series X are available for pre-order and preloading on those platforms. They will go live Tuesday, and offer visuals up to 4K resolution, frame rates up to 60 fps, HDR options, ray tracing, faster loading times, improved textures, and other new features. I won't pay for it. If we keep supporting things like this, Rockstar's gonna keep prioritizing this game over other stuff like Bully or even a next gen patch for Red Dead Redemption 2

Paying for an upgrade is simply a slap in the face. They should at least make some extra content to go with it, like Death Stranding did. Then it would be more tolerable.

I bought it myself on PS5 and I have to agree that I’m far from blown away by this update. It’s nothing special that’s for sure. The 60 FPS definitely makes a difference, but other than that it’s just an ok upgrade for me. It’s definitely not worth paying more than $10 for it in my opinion.

You liked the game enough to buy it multiple times over three generations, but tell people who haven’t played it to buy another game with a real story..

Even the FREE next gen patch for Cyberpunk 2077 added pets, apartments to buy, new cars, a massive graphics & physics upscale and with many bugs fixed. All on the original PS4 game upgraded on PS5. You pay Rockstar $40 for slightly better graphics, shadows, reactive controller vibrations and more traffic... The game is still looks laughably last gen and cartoony in 2022. I hoped they would add a bigger DLC for storymode or even add the new online maps and locales to single player but it's literally just 4 patch notes that don't make any meaningful difference at all.

There is only so much you can do with old assets that are a decade old without completely breaking everything down into individual components and completely rebuilding or “remaking” the game. With that this update should have been free.

They basically increased the graphics settings to PC level (4K, very high and ultra settings) and added raytraced shadows.

You have all of these other companies willing to give a free upgrade to a new system but one if the biggest game development companies can't offer that same thing? NOT buying it.

I’ve been done with Rockstar after RDR 2. I liked that game but after all this, I stopped caring, even for GTA 6. You can tell Rockstar doesn’t care anymore.

The biggest issue for me is the fact that you can't play with last gen online. I was gonna pay the $20 for the upgraded graphics, but both of my little brothers still just have the Xbox One S. It makes no sense for them to split their player base even more.

Probably good to mention that you only get the $4m by starting with a new character. You don't get it by transferring your character from a previous generation. Would have been nice if they gifted it to everyone and reward those that continue to play across three generations. But I'm pretty happy with the 60fps and slightly better visuals for the 10 bucks. Plus its nice revisiting the story mode.

$9.99 isn’t bad but if u bought it for $60 I’d be a little put out by the paid upgrade. I never bought the game so it’s a good deal for me.

Ray tracing has been the real snake oil of this gen. Love you're raving about how great it looks on car reflections yet its only used on local shadows. Priceless
