Why Texas Tech Has To Use Behren Morton More To Reach Their Full Potential (College Football)
Показать описание
In Today's Video, we will discuss why Tahj Brooks is the centerpiece to the Texas Tech offense, but Behren Morton has to be used more to allow this Red Raider offense to meet its maximum potential
In Today’s Video, we will discuss....
Why the run game is the vocal point for Texas Tech moving forward
However, why Texas Tech has to “let Behren Morton cook”
What to expect more of moving forward for the Red Raider offense as Big 12 play continues
Plus, What is the “maximum” potential of this offense is
One word to describe the Texas Tech Offense with Behren Morton at QB?
Texas Tech Is Clearly A Run First Team
I know what you’re saying, “RC, didn’t the thumbnail say it was Morton Time with a Power Rangers reference to “Morphin Time”
Yes… yes I did, and first and foremost S/O to all my 90’s babies out there
In all seriousness though, Tahj Brooks is the centerpiece of this Texas Tech offense and that’s not a debate
Brooks is 100% that guy this week because Baylor is 13th in rushing yards allowed per game….
They should 100% give him 18-24 touches a game
That being said, defenses better than Houston and Baylor are going to adjust and start loading the box
This is where Morton comes in
LET MORTON COOK!
It’s all relative to expectations right?
I want to see more of Morton using his strengths
Give reads, down field passing and throwing darts across the middle of the field
RPO’s are a good way to do this as well as play action
Teams haven’t really had to take Techs play action passing game seriously since DeAndre Washington
Now they do and this could help Morton in a ton of ways be more effective and efficient
Yes, I know Morton is battling through an AC Joint injury and it sounds like a pain tolerance thing, but these types of plays help in that regard
Do you want to see Behren Morton throw the ball more? Y for Yes or N for No
What To Expect More Of Moving Forward
RPO’s, screens and down field shots
The OL looked solid against an average Houston pass rush only allowing 1 sack
I think Kittley has adjusted to more movement pre snap which makes Mortons life easier (in theory)
I expect Myles Price, Nehemiah Martinez and Jerand Bradley to be the main targets moving forward…why?
Price and Martinez can be used and line up in multiple spots and are two of the better route runners on the team
Bradley, is an elite 50/50 ball guy and someone that can create the big play for Morton on the outside
I expect TE’s to be used the most creatively moving forward as well
Maximum Potential For This Texas Tech Offense Is…?
Through 5 games, Texas Tech is 9th in passing yards per game and 8th in rushing yards per game in the Big 12
Do I expect them to have Oklahoma passing numbers? No, but I think Tech can be a lot more efficient passing which is key when transitioning to being a more running team
I do however expect them to create more space in the passing lanes and windows now that defenses have to drop 7 or 8 into the box to respect Tahj Brooks and the Red Raider rushing attack
RC’s Take: By no means is the traditional way of saying “Let Morton Cook”, but I do think there is a way where Tech can be much more efficient passing wise and we saw glimpses of that vs. Houston
