We have adopted a cat and I vlogged the first 24 hours of him being home. His name is Romeo and he is 1 year old. We rescued him from Battersea Dogs and Cats home and after seeing his wonderful description we had to take him into our home.

Thanks for adopting an adult cat, and a black one. Adult black cats are the most overlooked cats when people are looking to adopt. Romeo is beautiful!

What a love!! Romeo is the right name for him. I can't believe how quickly he adapted! He's just so cute. I'm so glad he has a loving home, and hope this one is forever. ❤

Beautiful cat. Make him an indoor cat he will live a lot longer and especially don't let him out before Halloween! Too dangerous! He would love a high cat tree next to the window to watch birds and squirrels. You could also enclose the balcony to make a catio which would make him really happy if he could have fresh air too. Mine will have a garden catio soon. How about some fluffy toys? He's very scared which is normal so plenty of water bowls as he will have a dry mouth from the stress of being moved. Strictly keep inside for at least a month, vets say 6 wks. He's still young, train him to walk on a leash he will love you for it! There's plenty of You Tube tutorials on how to train them to do it

How precious! I once adopted a one year old black cat and he was my absolute joy and a delightful, funny, and smart companion for 16 wonderful years. I’m so happy to hear how well Romeo is still doing with your family. A cat is such a wonderful pet!

Hey there, just passing through and stumbled on this. Gorgeous kitty! However, I am going to echo what a few have already said, and provide some additional information that I hope you'll consider. A lot of people say to keep your cat indoors, and there are some very good reasons for this. The first and foremost are things like parasites, ticks, worms, fleas, all kinds of things but the worst are the heart worms. Nearly impossible to detect, and when it is discovered. it is too late. They are exactly what they sound like, btw. And they can get it just by being in contact with faeces of other animals. If a dog with heart worms poops on the sidewalk, and even if the owner cleans it up, there are still particles on the ground that the cat will then tread over. And as cats do, eventually lick its feet, ingesting the heart worm eggs.

There's also things like FiV (Cat HIV) that can infect a cat from a bite from another cat. Also Feline leukemia, etc. Illnesses and parasites aside, while the UK has far less predators than the States do, there are still stray dogs to consider, as well as cars, and absolute trash people who like to harm black cats specifically. In the US, it is a requirement for adoption of all cats from shelters, to sign a document saying that you will keep the cat indoors because we have things like, at least in my neighborhood in the SF Bay Area: Coyotes, Cougars, possums, and raccoons, all of whom regularly eat outdoors cats. I've seen the remnants far far too many times - usually all that's left are a few tufts of fur, some intestine, and a leg or two.

Last, but not least: Native Birds. I love cats, i really do, but they are genocidal little maniacs when it comes to birds and rodents. Even a cat that "is not a hunter" will go after a bird because, hey it's a flying outside toy! And they may not know how to kill the bird cleanly, so it dies a very very slow death. Outdoor Cats are, also, unfortunately, the reason that 33 species of birds have gone extinct in the last few years. Current estimates is that they kill around 1.4 - 4 Billion birds a year. It's caused a lot of issues with migratory bird flight paths, as well as prevents some vegetation from being able to propagate as birds frequently help spread their seeds either through eating the fruit, or directly carrying pollen on their feathers.

Anyways, I hope you'll consider this. Cats can and will live a very happy life being indoors only - my last cat lived to the ripe old age of 21 and was predominantly indoors only (she had the ability to go outside for the first 4 years, but after and incident with a neighbor poisoning her, I made the change for fully indoors.) But, as I said before, I'm just a passer by. I wish you, and Romeo the best.

Cheers.

Just saw your video! Love that you rescued a kitty!! Just a note in case you weren't told yet. Keep food away from litterbox and water away from food. Wet food is best for cats due to urinary health. Thank you for loving him!!

I moved all over the United States with my cat. She adapted beautifully. There must have been some other circumstances for the former owners. However, that was such good luck for you and your family. He has beautiful green eyes! He is a sweetie. Congratulations !

Very sweet of you to take Romeo and to look after him. Animals need affection and care, some more than others. Your fluffy darling accepted you immediately and let you cuddle him. A great sign he is content and not scared anymore. If only there would be more people willing to look after animals. You will now have a friend for life. Regards from Northern Europe.

That is sad. I could NEVER leave my pets behind. I have moved to many places and had to sacrifice a bit but I never sacrificed my cats. Thank you for giving him a loving home. ❤ Yes a few suggestions, don’t place the food next to the litter box 🤢 place the food on top of a rubber mat, this way if the cat does spill some water it would be okay, Also dedicate one bowl for dry food, one for wet canned food and one for water. All plates must be either metal or ceramic. Plastic harbors bacteria and cats get chin acne.
You had the right idea to keep the cat in one room only in the house so the kitty can acclimate to the new environment, sounds, smells. I would also provide a window perch. ❤lovely kitty 🐈‍⬛

You've adopted a beautiful Bombay cat; all-black (even under his paws, etc.). Mine just passed away last month at almost 17 years old. They are extremely affectionate as a breed, will follow you around the house, and are almost like small dogs. I would recommend getting him another cat to keep him company if you are out of the house a lot as a family -- they don't like to be left alone. Cherish the years you have with Romeo. My Ringo was the best animal companion I've ever had.
