Mercedes-Benz, in understanding that not every consumer is inclined towards purchasing an SUV, has introduced the 2024 E-Class Estate. This stylish wagon serves as a sophisticated alternative to the prevalent SUV market. With enhanced space and the incorporation of cutting-edge features, the E-Class Estate is positioned as a luxurious family car. This launch is significant, especially in light of the circulating rumors that Mercedes may discontinue its wagons after 2030. The E-Class Estate’s presence helps to uphold Mercedes-Benz’s versatile lineup, continuing the long-standing tradition of elegant wagons.

In terms of dimensions, the 2024 E-Class Estate, codenamed S214, has grown across all measures, though not by massive strides. The wheelbase, stretched by 22 millimeters, offers enhanced legroom. The width has seen an increase of 28 millimeters, adding to the elbow space. Overall length and height have also seen minor increases. Interestingly, this iteration of the E-Class Estate has done away with the optional third row, choosing instead to focus on optimizing cargo space.

The cargo space in the 2024 E-Class Estate is ample, offering 615 liters when the rear seats are in place. When the rear seats are folded down, this space expands to an impressive 1,830 liters. However, for those who opt for the plug-in hybrid variant, the cargo space will be slightly less due to the extra components that come with the hybrid system. The vehicle features an electrically operated tailgate as standard, ensuring convenience when accessing the cargo area.

Aesthetically, the E-Class Estate exudes elegance and modernity. The body is sleek and has been designed with aerodynamics in mind, with the drag coefficient reduced from 0.27 to 0.26. Customers have the option to equip the car with wheels up to 21 inches, though the base model comes with more modest 17-inch wheels.

Inside the cabin, the E-Class Estate is nothing short of a technological marvel. It takes several cues from its sedan counterpart, including the option of having three screens. A standout feature is the inclusion of a selfie camera, a testament to the car’s appeal to the social-media savvy generation. Furthermore, the E-Class Estate comes with integration for popular applications like TikTok and Angry Birds, and also supports Zoom conferencing through an interior video camera on the dashboard.

The suspension system is noteworthy, as the E-Class Estate comes with a standard rear air suspension. For those looking for an even more refined ride, there's an option to upgrade to a two-axle Airmatic suspension. This ensures that the E-Class Estate is not just luxurious, but also an exceptionally comfortable and smooth ride, irrespective of the road conditions.

Under the hood, the E-Class Estate offers several options. In Europe, it will initially be available as the E200 and E220d, with the E300e plug-in hybrid joining later. The E200 comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine generating 204 horsepower, supplemented by a mild-hybrid system. On the other hand, the E220d is a diesel variant with a 2.0-liter engine, churning out 197 horsepower. Both these options are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The E300e plug-in hybrid, which combines a turbo 2.0-liter gas engine with an electric motor, delivers a total output of 312 horsepower. This makes it the quickest among the three, boasting a 0-62 mph time of 6.5 seconds. Its electric range is commendable as well, courtesy of its 25.4 kWh battery pack.
