Beyoncé makes sense at #1. During her commercial peak in the 00s to early 2010s she was ubiquitous. Although her sales dipped later on, she started to become more of a critic’s darling with Lemonade and Renaissance. Her career had a lot of impactful moments like the Single Ladies craze— which is maybe one of the last times a singer’s choreography has been so widely referenced. She repopularized the visual album. She is also the first female artist in history to do an all stadium tour with the Formation World Tour. And as a vocalist, she has sang with basically all the greats. I think Beyonce’s lack of promotion and her inability to come off as relatable has really hindered her legacy among younger Gen Z. Also, her proximity to politics doesn’t help either. Whether you love her, hate her, or don’t get her, I think you still have to give her credit for remaining popular throughout the physical, digital, and the streaming era. Maybe the only pop artist alive who’s achieved such a high relevancy for so long.

Yup. Love her or hate her, Beyonce is literally the only artist here to remain relevant the ENTIRE 21st century so far.

She’s been in the media since the 90s and has only gotten better at her craft. Also, practically everyone on this is either a huge fan, a collaborator, or directly inspired by her.

She’s the GOAT. Not above reproach and at times a little problematic, but she’s easily the best pop superstar here.
