If they are in India, I highly doubt the cost of a "computer" is $500. In addition, the internet is accessible via mobile devices, which are aplenty in Africa and India.

Note everyone in the States has a PC/Laptop as many people use their mobile device as their main connection to the internet/social media.

I agree that India has a lot of Facebook users, and thank you for your comment, because you are corroborating my initial comment that said "Lol everyone" to the OP who said "who even uses facebook anymore?" I'm glad to see that in India, there are many who use the service. Your comment shows that many people use Facebook in India. I was simply trying to tell the OP that 1 / 7 billion is a significant number, because not everyone has computers, therefore eluding to the argument about poverty.

Wow. They didn't even mention the Google+ update. CNET loves Apple and Facebook.

I didn't say everyone in India doesn't have internet/is poor, I was simply saying that they have a large amount of impoverished families. They have a population of over 1 billion, of course they have one of the largest internet user bases.

A lot actually, probably more than you. To list a few: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, India, and Iraq. Never been to Africa, so I'm am speaking on behalf of the common knowledge that is accessible about the countries in the continent's economic status and financial situation.

No, I am making the assumption that a large number of people in India are poverty stricken, no percentage. According to data obtained by Oxford University in 2010, 55 percent of India's population is below the poverty line (so it is a majority after all, haha). That's about 645 million out of 1.1 billion people. So even though it's not 90%, that's still about double the population of the United States.

Sure, 1.2-1.5 billion people live in first-world countries, but do ALL of them, even though poor, have access to internet capable devices EVERYDAY (Facebook's 1 billion number is based off of daily users). No. But, for the sake of argument, let's just say they did. That's still 83%-67% of people using a service that run by a public company on an interface that requires some sort of payment (internet). Not bad in my opinion.

Umm actually, electronics are the cheapest in the United States (when compared to any other public market in the world). So, in India, a modern laptop for $500 would be a steal (assuming reasonable specs). And idk why you think that poverty stricken families in third-world countries have smartphones (yes, you need a smartphone, usually, to access services like Facebook), because that's simply incorrect.
