Congratulations. Love the smell of new hardware in the morning. My is apparently being ordered by my employer, likely to still take a month to get here. In the mean time I have gone from Magic Mouse to Magic Trackpad, as I promised. I certainly hope you are proud of yourself!

not a mac book pro but a mac mini m1 bought a year ago, still blown away by the speed of it.

There's no difference in performance on laptop vs battery. What likely happened was, when you first load up your machine, it does an index of Spotlight which takes a solid hour to complete and tanks your performance. You should get 15 minute export all the time, even on battery now that it's done.

I mean, we all know who's gonna win...but by how much? At first I was a little underwhelmed by the export speeds but then I realize I made one crucial mistake... How much faster are your new MacBook Pros compared to your old Macs?

<EDIT> In thinking about why today’s video exported so much faster than my last video: it’s possible the software I used to get the October Apple Event video from YouTube created an incredibly resource intensive video file. I used a different app to create the Apple Event vids for *this* video, and I have a feeling the video files it created were not as resource intensive to export. 🤔

i edit on a desktop 🖥 .. and u don’t know how much i’m craving fr this laptop. the convenience of taking it mobile with me will be so much helpful as a creator who travels and often comes in situations where i need to move to a different place … dream dream dream .. i even dream of this macbook 💻 now

Very interesting as I’m also still editing on the 2013 MacPro trash can, getting stuff cut and out as quick as possible is an issue with increasing demands from clients. So looking forward to 2022 and new Macs

Hi Matthew,
Thanks for making these videos. Today I was comparing the export on my Macbook Pro 14" M1 Pro vs my Macbook Pro 13" Intel i7. It looks like the export on the Intel version is faster than on the M1, which is quite surprising to me. Have you done any tests in this area and what are your findings?

Is editing on the desktop smoother than on the MacBook 💻?
How is the MacBooks timeline performance?
Wondering why you only choose to export on the laptop.

This was helpful. So you got the base model other than upgraded ram and ssd? My 2018 Mac Pro sadly isn’t working anymore and I forgot to renew my apple care, so now I’m in the market. As usual good stuff.

I have had my MacBook Pro M1 (w/16GB) for about a year, and it surprises me every time I use it, the battery life is just crazy! I too have a Late 2013 Mac Pro ( different config than yours; 6 core, Dual D500, 32GB - it is a proxmox server running several VMs).

Wow... I'm feeling pressure to upgrade from my 2013 MacPro now that I see these fast results. Thanks for this video, Matthew, especially the inserted section about plugging in! Who. Knew!

Looks like a amazing machine, thanks for sharing! How is working in the timeline with M1 Pro, any studder or "shopiness"? And is it necessary to go M1 Max with 32 core GPU? Im using Sony a7SIII and really want to get away from my issues editing on 2019 Macbook Pro 16" (422 10 bit).

A question, do you think there's a Final Cut Pro / MacOS release where the Mac Pro 2013 works better or faster?
Let's say some software update that a certain point made worst the support for the dual D300/500/700s?

Curious on how your workflow will be working on an Intel-based system and exporting on Apple Silicon. Hopefully all the plugins you run on the Intel system have Rosetta support. I had issues switching back-and -forth and ultimately just settled on adopting the M1 ecosystem across all workflows. Saved me a lot of headaches.

3 Hours is crazy for a render time! The battery should not affect the results unless they are running low. Have you tried exporting to prores?

Wait: you've been using a 2013 Mac Pro this entire time??? Wow. I assumed you would have gone iMac/iMac Pro in 2018! Props to the Trash Can!
