Mainly Muscle Cars Test Drive 1969 Fairlane Cobra 428CJ

I talked my Mom into buying one just like this back in 1969 except ours had the hood scoop with the functional ram air, saying 428 Cobra Jet with the "snake" logo on both sides of the scoop. Nobody ever even challenged me to race it. Great car but honestly way too fast for a kid in high school. Never wrecked and only got one ticket with it for speeding, the one day I took it out to see what it would do. Officer pulled me over in his Dodge Trooper Car with a 440 in it and said "What in the hell are you doing?" I told him I had to run it at least one time. He gave me a ticket for doing 100mph and I went to the judge privately and paid it. My Dad was on the local Police Commission at the time and I didn't want him to find out. He had already warned me that if I got a ticket for speeding with that car I wouldn't drive it again for months. The judge never told him or at least he never told me about it. Sometimes small town politics can be a good thing>>> LOL

If I was buying a brand new car in 1969 it would be either a 440 Six Barrel Roadrunner with a 4 speed and 4.10 gears or a 428SCJ Fairlane Cobra Fastback with a 4 speed and 3.91 or 4.30 gears. Always loved the 68-69 Fairlane/Torino/Mercury Cyclone fastback body style

The first true mid size muscle car from Ford...besides a 66-67 Fairlane 427 but they were very low production and the 427 was too radical for everyday street use.

Bought a new 1 in 1969 for 100 down and 100 a month for 36 months, sad to say it was stolen with only 2000 miles on Speedo, was found under a water tower stripped, found out later motor went to Florida race track

Cars are meantt to drive, ghost ghe old dinosaurs are not obviously practical for daily driving, ha gas expensive as a bitch.
