I absorbed this into my FUCKING SOUL. I know there’s a ton of interpretations of this but it feels like some one who’s incredibly afraid of being forgotten, it feels like the distress of knowing that there are people better at what *your* met to me good at. I love this song.

I have two interpretations of this song.
Interpretation 1 being about someone who has a special passion or hobby and has a true fear of letting it go or not being good enough at it so they constantly try harder and harder but each time, they’re still not good enough at it. Eventually even if they die, they want their hard work to be acknowledged or recognized as good enough so they spend endless time improving to still in the end, not be the best or the best they think they can be.

The second one is of someone who is forcing themselves to get more talented at something or a skill for the approval of someone. I would’ve said parent but it’s most likely a lover since the first verse indicates it possibly. They eventually get pulled into trying to master it and become obsessive over perfection to the point where even a single mistake can make them doubt all their abilities or self worth. Just for the attention of the one they love, they try harder and harder yet don’t seem to be good enough for them or reached a high enough goal. They’re aware that how much they’re working themself is slowly killing them which is why they often question how much do they have to do until they’ve finally achieved their desire. This turns into a loop of constant pain, insecurities and never being good enough and even in death, they ask for others or of course the person’s who’s approval they chase, to at least remember their name and their work to even feel a sense of peace.
