I'm not a writer, but I enjoy seeing you break down how writers do their thing. One doesn't have to be a chef to appreciate seeing the chef work.

Are you planning to include a battle in your current work-in-progress? Let us know!

I hate reading battle scenes - love my fanatsy / historical fictions, but I kind of gloss over it a bit. So, what have I done? Started writing a story with a couple battle scenes. So far I have the fights off page as my character is mostly a strategist (behind the scenes) and as their are multple allied armies, they often receive reports of other victories and losses along the way. So, this really helped, as I have now got to the point where my character needs to get their hands dirty.

I don't believe in killing characters just to make it dramatic, unless it serves a purpose to a story.
Some simple steps are:
1. A hopeless situation and a creative solution: hopeless because the opponent is so strong that MC can't stand a chance. Creative, realistic solution not a creative plot armor.
2. Environmental and surrounding factors affecting the battle and how characters take advantage of them.
3. A Proper Power Scaling is important in a power fantasy action novel. Marvel fails in it.
4. A level of strength must have a cost behind it. Either as training (cost paid beforehand) or after sacrificing something valuable like longevity (he might lack skills in that case).
5. Brawn Vs Brain? Mastery of both is called fighting skills. Idk how so many superheroes show skills without any training just because they got this power?😑

can u make a video on how to write a training scene (like where a character teaches another character how to use their superpowers?)

Brandon, thank you once again for this method. It's going to get me through a wild battle I've been dreading writing.

My head is spinning trying to imagine how I am going to write the battles in my book.

Thanks for the video. I find your videos very helpful.

I have one question for you. What is your thoughts of having multiple POVs within a large battle?

For example two main charaters are coming to the battle, first one is the initial attack and the other POV from the supporting forces coming to there aid. Would this come across as too many views of the same battle or would it add more exciting perspective to the battle. Like the first half of it through one character and the second half displayed through a different character.

Thanks.

Yes I have a battle scene roughly planned.

How do you go about writing multiple fight scenes with multiple main characters in 3rd person? I am currently doing this and my current method is breaking up each unique fight with *** in order to change the POV to a different character.

Is there a different or more advantageous way to go about it?

I disagree that there is no in between regarding loss / win in a battle.

For example I had two armies fight a real bloody battle and the protagonist' side manages to fight off the enemy army but takes huge losses in the fighting (even the MC is grievously wounded). The enemy army has to retreat inside its city walls and now the protagonist's army has to settle for a long siege despite the low morale after taking high casualties

So instead of a clear win/lose situation, New stakes are established for everybody instead.

I'm writing a novel with a battle on a navy ship. I have a few questions, but I'm gonna start with a basic one: if I had, say, 60 sailors or so, how necessary would it be to briefly describe each other? Is it okay to randomly label them as "this one soldier" or "another sailor"?

Now I'm thinking, how can I write a battle scene where one person is fighting with an army of one million soldiers or warriors?

I was gonna leave you a like but it’s at 69, not gonna be the one to change that so I’ll just settle for a comment

Good video, but for some reason it made me want to re-watch the Star Wars original trilogy. 🤔

Yes, but it's based on an historical battle.
