A clear result of Hornby's "Design Clever" phase, this model is one of the cheapest 2-8-0 that can still be found on the market today. In an era of models over 200£, this was still be able to be found around 100£ in many retailers at the time of filming.
This bring both a dilemma and an introspection that the hobby needs to have for its future. Are modern model trains too well done now? The price sure brings them out of mainstream and limit the possibility of new people getting in the hobby.
A model like this is simpler in construction but still look very good. A few details are molded instead of being fitted seperately. The weight is decent and so is the pulling power. It runs decently and they picked a livery inexpensive to produce. the best part is that you can basically get two of these for the price of one new release! If you are ready to give up premium feature like firebox glow, painted dials in the cab and other small details, this is exceptional value! Highly recommend!
I have 100s of locomotives in my collection. Let me know in the comments what type of loco or rolling stock you would like to see next.
