It really should have far better stealth performance. I dont know what they did to calculate its RCS, but its just not right.

The F-117 has a radar cross-section (RCS) of about 0.001 m2 which is the same radar signature as an insect.

The F-117A should get two advanced IR missiles. Not only could it carry them in their bays, but the Nighthawk actively used them in multiple simulated combat scenarios. The reason they never took them into live combat was because it was designated to bombing roles while other aircraft like the F-16's were its support against air targets.

It needs a buff to stealth. It wouldnt even be unbalanced given a lot of SPAA platforms dont even need a lock, they can just manually guide in the missile. The F-117 is a slow moving target. Should be an easy kill even without a lock.

So i think there's a few things that need to be said about the F-117 coming to the game.

The F-117 was meant to hit precise structures from safety of stealth. Every part of it was made to be hard to detect in bith Radar and IR, to the point it is still decently close to the F-22 and F-35 RCS. The stealth allowed it to go in, drop guided bombs, use an internally built laser guidance system without conflicting stealth capabilities, take out a couple of what was seen as key structures that needed some explosive power.

Now a lot of people are giving the F-117 a lot of hate rn, however in most of the things i've heard is about taking out ground vehicles. Well thats the problem, the F-117 isn't made to take out those vehicles. The F-117 is going to make bombing bases and AF a lot more interesting while still not being so OP that one flight will ruin your af (wait for the B-2 then an entire AF will have an aspect of it erased in one flight).

Its limit of 2 bombs was perfect for just precise guided bombing that was needed and it still will. I don't see it as being the ultimate bomber in game but honestly the amount it can bomb like irl may suit the game very well.

Now the RCS i've seen is something i don't understand why they think this way. Tbh most radars are still primitive to what the iconic ones got and the fact they're seeing at like 12-15nm is a bit weird, so i'd like it to be better and the F-117 did not have increased RCS from different aspects like the Gaijin has it modelled, thats literwlly only the property of the Chinese J-20. Top that off with the IR signature yet to actually work, it seems like an IR seeker can lock on just like any other jet when it shouldn't it should be harder, so theres still a bunch of things that need fixing, but at the same time.i'd advise everyone to remember two things.

1. Dev server, still can be changed by the time its completely out. Just put in your thiughts and pray.

2. At least from what it seems like, this is a step to rest how stealth will interact with the game. Would kinda be bad if we suddenly got the F-22 and you could see ut on radar at 30nm. So the RCS and IR signature will probably be adjusted multiple times. And if i had to bet something i'd bet the next stealth aircraft will be aircrafts like the B-2 for similar reason, to test how it'll interact with the game.

Alot of people say the br suck but dont realize how insane the bombing camera is, you can be 8km up and you can see targets with ease. Sure you only get 2 bombs but if you play the plane correctly its 2 guaranteed kills.

Another CC did a good test that DOES prove stealth works if played well. Yes its detectable from 6-7km... the F16 gets detected from 20km. The F117 CAN hide from radars, the other planes cannot.

I dont understand why its a strike aircraft. By all accounts its a proper bomber. it should be a Bomber with the higher spawn location. Also yeah, its stealth needs to be massively adjusted.

It's quite intriguing how people are bringing up "real life facts" to justify why this plane isn't performing well.
First of all this is a classified aircraft, and most characteristics about its performance are pure conjecture.
Second of all, this is a video game and this plane is supposed to be balanced, the very only gimmick this plane has in its favor are its stealth capabilities, when not even that is working, it will be completely useless not only in Air RB (Which it's supposed to be) but also Ground RB. There will be no advantage bringing this thing over a A-4 with Walleyes at 10.0, which at least has countermeasures. They really must reduce its RCS.

Wasn't the story that they tried to get it on radar and got a signal the size of a bird, only to look up and see a bird landed on the model.

Given how the F-117's radar and IR profiles are classified, Gaijin will need to thread the needle between making sure the plane isn't overpowered while still keeping with player expectations of it's performance. Detection and lock-on ranges will likely be drastically reduced compared to what could be encountered before and historically older equipment may fail to operate at useful ranges. The bird is also quiet compared to other jets and that could get the jump on some players, especially if it releases its payload at range. Countering this is that the F-117, as stated, is out of it's element in most War Thunder matches. Most players prefer to play daytime matches; a time F-117s have historically avoided during their operations in order to not literally be seen. It also only can only bring two bombs before RTB, and that limits what it can do in matches. Even if Gaijin adds the rumored Sidewinder trapezes, I don't see it excelling at air combat either.

It doesn't suprise me at all that gaijun has completely gotten the F-117's stealth attributes wrong. Im glad to see its not an event or battlepass vehicle, but the aircraft has nothing going for it but its stealth. Its stealth attributes aren't even all that classified anymore, and the only reason why the one nighthawk got shot down in the first place, was because they had their bomb bay open. I hope they fix this, but it being gaijun, I doubt they will any time soon.
