Cleaning my Fish Tank! Dirty Aquarium Maintenance with POWERED Sponge Filter Hack
Показать описание
Hello everyone, it’s Pierre and welcome back to the channel!
This video shows how to clean an aquarium while doing a water change. I tried using a powerhead that I attached to a sponge filter... Check out the results!
This tank got really dirty BUT the nitrates were ZERO.
The tank is a 29 gallon shrimp tank that contains Crystal Red Shrimp (Caridina cantonensis) and a few stray Cherry Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) plus some Kuhli loaches (Pangio kuhlii and Pangio semicincta).
I take a powerhead and attach it to a coarse sponge filter. I place it into the tank, squeeze both filters and then start the pump. Then I use another DIY device made of PVC pipe and a squeeze bulb to drain most of the water. I attach a DIY strainer so the shrimp and loaches don’t get accidentally sucked up.
I also stir up the substrate to allow mulm to be captured by the filter. While the water is draining and the pump is running, I remove algae from the glass with a sponge. I switch the sponge to a smaller one with finer holes to really suck up even the tiniest particles. I also remove excess moss (Suswassertang) and net out some of the Duckweed.
You can see the powered sponge filter really start to blow everything around!
After adding dechlorinator, I refill the tank. I leave the polisher running to further clarify the water.
Take a look at the before and after shots to see how much cleaner the tank looks after the whole process! It isn't perfect but definitely a lot easier on the eyes... I then feed the shrimp and loaches as a reward for disturbing them!
As always, thanks for watching and happy fishkeeping! If you enjoy the content, please consider subscribing. Let me know if you have questions, I’m always happy to answer them!
