The rice ball you had was a classic saffron arancini with mozzarella. It's the saffron that makes it yellow.

Notes for Italy travelers: Pepperoni means peppers not meat sausages. If you order a latte in Italy you will get a glass of warm milk since that just means "milk"!

If you ever get back to Venice, take a boat tour to the islands of Murano, Burano, Lido and Giudecca. Murano is famous for its handblown art glass factories, Burano for its handmade lace and colorful houses, and the other islands are less touristy but still have interesting sightseeing, shops and cafes.

Similar to ice cream, gelato is made from a custard base of milk, cream, and sugar. The difference lies in the proportions of each with gelato having more milk (and less cream) compared to ice cream. Gelato also doesn't usually contain egg yolks the way that ice cream does.

I’m brasilian, and felt in love with you 2, I’ve been to Venice 3 times. The first, with my parents, in 1980, at Carnival, absolutely amazing! The second time, very quickly, and the third time, I had a very good friend who was living in an unbelievable apartment, in grand Canal, very close to Rialto, a wonderful view, and I was there for 12 days! He worked during the day, so I had full time to walk the whole “Fish” and islands like Murano and Burano. Unforgettable!
