The man who rammed a truck into a crowd of people in New Orleans before starting a gunfight with police acted alone and claimed he joined the Islamic State terrorist group last summer and inspired his attack, officials said on Thursday.

Officials said on Thursday that they now believe 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar acted alone in carrying out the attack. On Wednesday, they were searching for other potential suspects in the incident. Christopher Raia, deputy assistant director of the FBI’s counterterrorism division, said the evidence now shows that Jabbar was solely responsible for the attack and had professed his allegiance to ISIS.
