We looked up the word shaft: a long, narrow part or section forming the handle of a tool or club, the body of a spear or arrow, or a similar implement... I can imagine a shaft that can fit a human, but will not allow the use of arms or legs. Being unable to make decisions because satan could have us stuck in a shaft of sin...Build upon Christ to be sheltered from the mighty winds and shafts.
