Let's get ETCHucated! Hi, I'm Danielle Proctor lead physical therapist at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. Follow me along for a day in life of a pediatric physical therapist.

I start my day by checking my appointments and grabbing any extra materials I need. As a pediatric physical therapist, I assist children in maximizing their ability to move based on their needs. We see ages from 0 to 21 so this can look different for all ages and abilities.

Today we are visiting with Mila. We are working on her main goals of sitting, rolling and reaching. To work on reaching, we promote weight shift on her belly to allow an arm to reach. The yoga ball is a great tool and I place interactive toys in the mirror to give her visual feedback. Next we build on this by using weight shifting with core engagement to encourage rolling over.

Working on new skills can be hard, so we make sure to incorporate play with lots of colors and music to motivate Mila and make therapy fun. I always want to empower our caregivers to carry over any skills that we have learned in therapy. Caregiver education plays such a large role in our patients' abilities to make progress towards their goals. Of course no day is complete without cleaning!

Thanks for following along. Don't forget to tune in for the next Get ETCHucated.
