7 Reasons Why I Quit Intermittent Fasting

preview_player
Показать описание

I did intermittent fasting for 7 years. I did it because I thought it was an easy way to get (and stay) lean.

What I didn't know was that I was hurting my body a lot.

I did not pay attention to all the warning signs my body was giving me that I should start eating breakfast (and more calories in general).

If you're currently doing intermittent fasting, check if you have any of the 7 warning signs. If you do, then maybe it's better to stop it.

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor. I'm just sharing what I'm eating and what works for me. I'm still figuring things out, so don't blindly follow my advice. If you want to implement something I'm doing, I recommend you try it out for around 7 days and see if you feel better or worse.

I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and over weight, I started intermittent fasting and within 6 months my weight was back to normal and blood pressure and cholesterol were back to normal

IF is a good thing to practice when you are older and your metabolism slows down (and probably a little overweight). When you are younger there is no benefit on skipping breakfast. I learnt it the hard way.

I have been doing this for years. Long story short I realized I needed to change. It was instantly better. My mind was much sharper as well. I just work out early in the morning. And eat a well balanced breakfast, and decrease my calories in the evening.Great video.

My body was pretty much perfect until I was into my 50's when weight started creeping. The weight battle went back and forth for years. In my late 70's I began keto and fasting, got control of weight and improved health. Now I'm in my eighties and credit reasonable keto and occasional prolonged fasting with good health.

This video was extremely helpful. I have been IF for a while now. Everyone is saying you have to eat whole foods, but what if you don't have an appetite. I no longer have an appetite for food, causing my immune system to plummet. IF is good for the short term. I now have to force myself to eat breakfast because, as a female, not eating a hearty breakfast n skipping meals causes hormonal imbalance. If you need to shed some pounds, do it, but don't make it long-term. The stress you're talking about I've experienced as well, and that also doesn't give you an appetite leaving you bloated from your last meal. Also, difficulty sleeping.

i did fasting for a year. now, im bloated, stress level high, this video is for me. Im planning to stop fasting everday. dats everyday. The long term effect in my body is terrible, i got sleep problems, moody and yes bloated. So today i decided not to skip meal, i experimented this IF coz its popular, but after a year, the results sucks. Thanks for this vid.

Thank you for your video. I had a bad experience with intermittent fasting as well. It is not for everyone.

Thank you for sharing your story

I had the same problems as you (and I'm also Dutch :p). My body was already easily stressed because of subclinical hypothyroidism, but luckily I found Ray Peat’s work. I started and tried fasting at 25, but it always felt bad (I tried to get rid of brain fog and it worked, but because of stress hormones). As my last resort, I tried low-carb to fix my health issues and it was absolutely horrible. I will never forget the extreme stress (I only did it for 5 months). Then I found Ray Peat on Twitter from ex keto/carnivore/low carbers talking about how Ray’s work saved them and I tried it and finally started slowly healing from the age of 27 (I'm now 29).

So the problem wasn't intermittent fasting but the quality and quantity of food you were or weren't eating.

Thank you so very much for this podcast, which I really needed to hear!! I have been doing IF for more than 10 months. I have recently realized that I just haven't been getting enough protein or calories. Have lost weight and really need to gain at least 10 pounds. Have been feeling lots of stress and thought it was because of my 2 Narcissist roommates. (Moving very soon!). They are away now on a long Christmas holiday and I feel even more stress. Feel so weak so often and sometimes legs are so weak that I feel as if I will fall if I take a nice walk. I will go back to regular eating right away. This IF is not worth it for me. Thanks again. Love, Jo

Compliments to you for trying different things and for remaining critical and not dogmatic. If I may give some advice, whatever your age and preferences the best is to eat whole foods, unprocessed. And for someone over 40, IF was good way to get rid of some weight and insuline resistance. Im sure I didn't need it at 19. I am now back to whole, organic foods and trying not to worry about food too much.

Intermitting fasting is not for everyone in the first place. Secondly you need nutritious foods filled with all macro nutrients and fiber rich foods within your eating window, failing to do these will be problematic. Also consult a professional to guide you on the do’s and don’ts before going on this journey. Intermitting fasting and fasting in general has helped me in so many ways, in fact I feel very productive and energetic and clear mind with less hunger during fasting periods. Fasting is one of many tools of healthy living.

You seem to have confused Intermitten Fasting (IF) with Caloric Reduction. The beauty of IF is the YOU taylor your hours of Fasting with your hours of Feasting. Preferably Feasting time under 12 hours.
Your Cold Hands and Cortisol maybe Insulin Resistance issues. Have you had IR checked out? Your Bloating and Tiredness could be Lectin Issues (see Dr Gundy’s videos).

No one needs to fast in their 20s if you are active and sports orientated, if you are a computer geek then get outside

Shortly. Your body grows until age 29. Don't mass with it. In our 20s we ate a lot.

I’ve been intermittent fasting for eight years and haven’t had any of his problems. Sounds like he eats the wrong food and not enough calories….his energy became low because his body never became fat adapted. His bloating is also a result of the wrong food, fasting allows the body to process previous food and toxins completely.

I tried intermittent fasting along with starting a plant based diet and it completely destroyed my gut 🤢🤢🤢🤢 I've had weird stomach aches for months. Went to the E. R and they did an ultrasound and there's inflammation there.

Because you didn’t eat whole food, I think in a very younger age it’s not a good idea to do intermittent fasting just because you need enough nutrition to grew up. By the way intermittent fasting is not starve your self, you just can eat as much as you can but certain of period. It’s not just you have to punish your body and starve yourself. You have to eat whole food with full of protein which provide you energy❤
