It's also been highly prized in Mesoamerica! It seems local cultures appreciate it wherever it's found.

Its also prized as a taonga (treasure) in Aotearoa NZ. Its called pounamu in Māori and was treasured for its strength, being one of the toughest stones found here. It was shaped into toki (adze), whao (chisel), mere (war club) and jewelry. Hei tiki are probably the most famous of these. I presented one of these to my wife in place of a weding ring to give you an idea of their value to Māori culture.

Up here is NW Washington state, we have both kinds, all slurried together by glacial activity. There's also dark green chert and green sedimentary stones up here, so there's a lot of raw green locks to rick

Really gemmy nephrite can be quite valuable also, if not as valuable as high-grade jadeite.

Love your mineral videos. Do you mine/rockhound or do you buy your specimens?

The sliced piece looks quite similar to bowenite.

I actually like the nephrite green color better than the jadeite color.

Rockhounder in Montana. People all the time calling nephrite jade here. Lot of nephrite to be found. No jade. Like i literally dont know of of any jade in MT. But i could be wrong.

i've been so confused about the super high quality nephrite, is it possible to become so gemmy? Alot of nephrite seem to be translucent but not clear enough to be so gemmy, are they so rare?

China has such a ridiculous fascination with Jade, they describe very fair skin as "Jade-like".

"Her "Jade-like" hands gently picked up a teacup". That is a normal sentence in Chinese literature.

Needles to say, me and the word Jade don't get along.

Both ARE Jade. People need to call them by their correct name types/titles. Nephrite Jade and Jadeite Jade. Being lazy about that is the real source of the confusion. Like calling the Queen Consort Queen. THE QUEEN is a Monarch or Sovereign Queen. A Queen Consort is a spouse of The King Sovereign or The King Monarch. Both are commonly (and lazily) called QUEEN. Anne, The Princess Royal, recently pointed that out to "Queen" Camilla ... She's NOT The Queen, she's The Queen Consort Camilla. Like in Jade, names and titles matter.
