In Part 4, I'm going to be looking deeper in the timeline, because Atlantis vs. Athens being a long-drawn out war is very important to when Atlantis went into the deep. Even on the audiobook of Timaeus, I had to cut out the part where the doofus narrator says, "Note, Plato uses the same date for the invasion of Athens and the destruction of Atlantis", to which I screamed "NO HE DOESN'T!"

This is so commonly misunderstood, it's kind of baffling. That's the important thing, it's easy to call Atlantis a myth if it was destroyed at exactly the same time as they were invading Athens. The key in Part 3 is that it wasn't. ;) Stay tuned for Part 4!

2:10 Lets look at that chapter.
"And Poseidon,  receiving for his lot the island of Atlantis, begat children by a mortal woman, and settled them in a part of the island, which I will describe. Looking towards the sea, but in the centre of the whole island, there was a plain which is said to have been the fairest of all plains and very fertile. Near the plain again, and also in the centre of the island at a distance of about fifty stadia, there was a mountain not very high on any side. "
Let me translate it:
And Poseidon, receiving for his lot the island of America, begat children by a mortal woman, and settled them in a part of the America, which I will describe.
Looking towards the pacific ocean, about midways in the centre of the continent, there was a plain which is said to have been the fairest of all plains and very fertile.
(so, there he described the land of Atlas, on the continent of the Atlantic/americas .. there is actually more description which is more precise)
(now he zoomes to the plain which is high up in the mountains)
Near the plain again, , there was a mountain not very high on any side.
(This is the little hill on the huge plain which is the base of the city.. its also mineral rich)

If you skip a few chapters down, there is a few more details revelead about the country of Atlas.
" The whole country was said by him to be very lofty and precipitous on the side of the sea, but the country immediately about and surrounding the city was a level plain, itself surrounded by mountains which descended towards the sea; it was smooth and even, and of an oblong shape, extending in one direction three thousand stadia, but across the centre inland it was two thousand stadia."

Thats a perfect description of THE ALTIPLANO ... its midways on the continent, close to the sea... but high up in the mountains.... from the altiplano, the moutanins plummet down into the pacifric ocean.. about 12000 feet.

Then you go further and he says.
"The surrounding mountains were celebrated for their number and size and beauty"

Yep, thats the altiplano ... a plain high up in the sky, perfectly flat... with a sea, rivers, canals, boats, cities... AND TWO HARVESTS... Thats quite a smoking gun.

3:00 Well.. theres 2 parts to that story. Yes, Poseidon did some rough work in the start. But the rest were made by generations of kings. Let me quote: (notice its "they".. as the kings and workers)
"First of all they bridged over the zones of sea which surrounded the ancient metropolis, making a road to and from the royal palace. And at the very beginning they built the palace in the habitation of the god and of their ancestors, which they continued to ornament in successive generations, every king surpassing the one who went before him to the utmost of his power, until they made the building a marvel to behold for size and for beauty. And beginning from the sea they bored a canal of three hundred feet in width and one hundred feet in depth and fifty stadia inlength, which they carried through to the outermost zone, making a passage from the sea up to this, which became a harbour, and leaving"

Its important to note that its all on dry land ... they DIG canals to get the water from the lake to the city. Its not an literal island before they have surrounded it by canals with water.

3:45 No, the rings dont match at all. They are like 25 km... wayyyy to big. The city itself isnt that big, its the surrounding flat oblong shape plain that is 3000x2000 stadia.
The city itself is just :
" Now the largest of the zones into which a passage was cut from the sea was three stadia in breadth, and the zone of land which came next of equal breadth; but the next two zones, the one of water, the other of land, were two stadia, and the one which surrounded the central island was a stadium only in width. The island in which the palace was situated had a diameter of five stadia. "
3stadia+2+2+1 .. plus the main hill at 5. So you are really looking at less than 1km radius, and not 25km ... plus some of those Richat walls are like hundreds of meters high.

4:40 thats my favorite part of all ancient texts, ever. The amount of wisdom he delivers about earth, cycles and celestial objects in a few chapters there .. is MINDBOGGLING.

6:51 That illustration isnt too bad.. notice how its not at sea. Its clearly on a plain. And they have dug the water in.
One big flaw tho .... the center is supposed to be a hill, about half the size of the city.
