So many awesome things about King's X. The visually choppy drumming that sounds so smooth. Doug's disgusting tone. The casual way Doug interacts with the crowd. The "over my head" sing along. God! They're so good.

King's X are a master class on group cohesion, writing amazing lyrics with faith content (first 6 albums) without being cheesy or preachy, incredible guitar playing-tone and feel, harmonies, tightness, truly as good live as on the record,  wonderful, humble attitudes, consistently great albums....

King's X is one of my top 3 bands (Rush and STP are the other two). I got to see them a few years ago in Oakland, CA, while I was living there, and it changed me. I can't get enough if them. It;s a shame they are not as successful as they should be, because they have talent to spare. Such an honest, hard working band, IMO.

I once lived in Ty's hometown <Pearl, Ms> and I played a couple of times at his Uncle's coffee shop.

One of the best shows I ever saw in terms of sound and mind blowing live musician performance was Kings X in Atlanta, GA @ the old cotton club venue. The year was 1994. They were supporting the Dogman album. They played with the Galaxy Cowboys? I think that was the name of the other band. However, when Kings X came on the stage, it hit you in the chest and then when they sang in such amazing harmony while pummeling onslaught of the groove shook you to the core...it was like being surrounded by Angels in the midst of a violent collision and you were going to come out of the experience refined in the fire...Ty Tabor his phrasing and chord selection and syncopation to the beat while singing!...Doug Pinnick with his 12 string bass slinking from the depths a familiar vintage, yet alternative 80's meandering...and that pocket drumming of Jerry Gaskill with his unique voice singing, placing his kicks in the accent points that hit the place where the heart and mind meet...

I got the chance to meet the band after a show in Chicago, they signed everything people put in front of them and were the nicest guys to talk to. I've been a Kings X fan since day one have everything they release including side projects. Doug was asked to join Deep Purple several years ago but said he had his own thing going on and declined. Truly one of the most criminally underrated bands of all time. Thanks for giving them a shout out.

Huge King's X fan here! I came upon them when Guitar World did an article back in the day on what Rock Stars were listening to on the road and a couple of them mentioned the Gretchen album so I figured I should check 'em out. So bought the cassette and have been a fan ever since. Great, great and sadly under appreciated band.

the dogman riff and its production is the heaviest matter of the universe.

Was happy to stumble upon this. Ty is my fav guitarist. Love that tone. Really everything. Lab Series days, rectifier days, even current sound. King's X just pure magic

Good call on throwing out King’s X as a sort of “test” when meeting new musicians! I thought I was the only one who did that. ;-). I’ve been following your channel for a while, but discovering this video cemented me as a fan of yours. Thank you for posting this vid & saying these things, and for sharing some love for a band that means so much to my own heart & soul.

Nailed it. Dogman is far and away my favorite album of all time. Seen them several times and they never fail to amaze. Stayed for an after show meet-greet a couple of times and OMG are they the nicest, most humble dudes ever. If such a thing as Karma actually exists, I very much hope there is a huge resurgence of interest in the band after their next album drops.

I had that moment with another member of a band we were playing with 2 weeks ago. Instantly became friends and talked about King’s X all night

OK Even a little more off the beaten track...Have you ever checked out "The Jelly Jam". It's Ty Tabor, Rod Morgenstein on drums and John Myung from Dream Theatre on bass

Nice props for one of my favorites! Ty is a smoking player and always had great tone. Wish I could hang out with Doug Pinic lol. Best harmonies since the Beatles.
