I’m totally suffering from watch burnout right now. The craziness in the industry and a new home purchase has killed it for me. These lows happen. It’ll come back again eventually.
You’re totally not alone
Cheers. Happy new year

I can relate to this same point in the watch journey. I think it’s healthy to allow yourself time away from daily watch consumption, and as you know your passion isn’t gone it’s just expressed differently now. It will ebb and flow and that’s just part of the journey. I plan to pull back on my frequency of purchases as well this year. Thanks for sharing Andrew and definitely appreciate any videos you post this year, even if it’s less frequent.

Think I'm at where you are mate, I won't be chasing a new watch ASAP any more, rather just get maybe 1 or 2 new great pieces this year and have a bit of a clear out... I just don't need 9 watches 😆.. great to see you back mate

It happens to me to .Go through periods where i say a watch is a watch and lose all interest . I can look at my collection and feel totally numb and really couldn’t give a shit thinking I have wasted huge sums of money over the years . At this point I really wish someone would knock on my door and give me an offer to buy the lot . However before long this passes and I’m again focusing on what direction I want to take my collection . It’s a crazy roller coaster of emotion ..

I’ve been feeling the same way and I think this is a really helpful message to share with the watch community.

I can especially relate to what you say about how other things suddenly seem inexpensive because you’ve lost all perspective on the value of other things in comparison to watches!

The hype from manufacturers, influencers, YouTube channels and Instagram posts constantly seek to undermine our contentment by promoting consumption. It becomes toxic.

You’re not the first person on YT to reflect some of these sentiments. I wonder if the watch community might be coming to the end of an era.

I get it, my main hobby is scuba diving and I’m a real kit magpie, I’ve spent the last couple of weeks selling off stuff that sits in boxes in my garage and I’ve now got a couple of thousand pounds in my accounts. Over the last 25 plus years I’ve had a few breaks where I’ve lost my mojo, give it a while and you’ll find it’ll suck you back in. Thanks for everything you’ve done up to now, I enjoy watching your channel.

You are approaching what most of us dream of: satisfaction ( or as they call it Nirvana 😂) You love the ones you have, particularly the Globemaster. So yeah that's a great thing. We miss seeing your videos here, but even if they are spaced out a bit further apart, that's fine!

I think working from home and generally not going out as much to avoid Covid has resulted in me not wearing watches indoors so much and considering major watch purchases as all a bit daft. These days the decent watches are as expensive as cars which makes no sense to me. When I get the itch I just strap on my Rolex Sub that I’ve had since new for 6 years and the endless search goes away. Maybe I’m becoming a one watch guy. Sacrilege you say? Maybe just content and sick of the bull shit, flex and hype. Watch collectors these days are really just watch investors. All they care about is return on investment. The watch history and brand not so much. Which all adds to my general wane in interest.

Great video, I can relate to this, I’ve sold a couple recently & have a sum of money to buy something…and been looking online daily…but I almost just can’t be arsed to buy anything m 😂😂 I think less is more, and it’s better to wait and buy the number 1 on your list rather than something else in your top 10, as if you don’t wait and buy the one you really want whatever you do buy will just end up being sold on pretty quickly….sometimes I wonder if the answer is to just sell the whole collection, buy one watch with the proceeds and then just delete Instagram etc and enjoy that one watch forever 😂😂

I love watches mate and it’s a hobby for sure. I post a few pics on Instagram and buy a few watches a year but I also sell a few and it takes up a bit of my time. But not much. It comes in waves for me. But I’m with you it’s about the people you meet and appreciating fine pieces of engineering/design etc etc. It’s only other watch people that give a shit really. But it’s good to see you back on here and we should have more meet ups as the last one was so much fun. Sorry to hear about your bereavement hope everything is ok. Speak soon 👍

I have 12 watches I was going to buy a breitling superocean but I changed my mind as I looked at motorbikes and I realised I could have bought A brand new 1000cc motorcycle and had money left over with the money I have spent on watches it really whent through me.

Always happy to see you mate. It happened to me recently too, I was going to buy a watch and had 4 or 5 in mind but just could not pull the trigger. Mainly look at Instagram in between jobs at work so I don’t spend hours of my free time. Need to sell some (although I have given a few away to mates), but then I strap one on and enjoy it. Think if I sell a few I might buy something else but not for the moment. Looking forward to your next video. 😁👍

Hey Andrew

I'm in a similar position. My journey hasn't been quite as long, but my journey down the rabbit hole has been quite detailed. I'm in the process of trying to consolidate down to a 2 watch collection. It feels like a weight off the shoulders! Want to tune out a bit and just focus on what I have.

There's nothing bad in realizing that all these thousands of pounds can go elsewhere. Sure, it is great to have a passion or a hobby, but family comes first as well as any mandatory expenses. I'm waiting for my Longines Spirit to come with bunch of straps. It's going to be my daily driver. I came to a conclusion where I need to think about my future more, than spending money on entertainment. Good to have you back Andrew. Take care

Definitely feel this. I haven't uploaded any watch videos myself for a while (despite actually buying more watches). However, life has got even more insanely busy, so its hard to carve out the time to create. Plus, a major factor now is watch insurance. Its a killer in London.

Ebb and flow, I think the Pelagos MN led to you bottoming out. But watches will grip you again the minute an interesting new release is announced. Trust me, I've been there before. By the way, Happy New Year! Don't forget, you are the man!

We all go through it and get through it in our own way and style. I have for sure.

Always happy to see 'The Internet sensation '😁
It's just a phase and it always happens when someone gets really into something.
Cut out the mass purchasing of middle of the road watches and buy something special once a year.
