Resisting Critical Race Theory Workshop, Session 3 of 5

What is Critical Race Theory? What does it believe? Where does it come from? How does it work? And what can we do about it? These are core questions to understanding our times. In this series of lectures, originally delivered in Tampa, Florida, in July of 2021, James Lindsay, the founder of New Discourses, gives thorough, deep answers to these questions.

In this third lecture in this eye-opening series on Critical Race Theory, Lindsay goes even deeper, into what he refers to as the "deep ideological roots" of Critical Race Theory. These roots are, predominantly, in the Communist Theory of Karl Marx. Marx's mid-19th century ideas were based on other ideas, however, particularly those of the German idealist G.W.F. Hegel and the French romantic Jean-Jacques Rousseau. In this lecture, Lindsay makes abundantly clear the relevance of these 18th and 19th century social theorists and philosophers to the Critical Race Theory plaguing the world today. He also makes important connections through the intellectual godfather of Critical Race Theory, a black scholar from the turn of the 20th century named W.E.B. Du Bois. After this lecture, you will have a deep understanding of how Critical Race Theory is both Race Marxism and just a racial manifestation of the broader "dialectical faith of Leftism" that finds its origins primarily in Hegel and Rousseau. Join him in this and the other lectures in the series to understand Critical Race Theory like you never have before!

When I listen to James quote @47:45 and what follows it, I find that I am so dumbfounded, so besides myself with disbelief and incredulity, I find that all I can do is close my eyes shaking my head in despair and anger; that these fucking people (and they do deserve the swear directed at them) have been invited & trusted into our most valued institutions of knowledge, as stewards and protectors of that knowledge and its traditions, and what do they do with it? To destroy it!!!! To subvert and erase it's memory? To rewrite its history with itself as the villain!!! What the FUCK my dudes and dudettes. These people are mortal enemies of freedom, liberty, pluralism, tolerance, understanding, decency, love, curiosity and everything else that is contributory towards the project of human flourishing and they MUST be stopped!

Honored to call James Lindsey a fellow Tennessean.. I liked his stuff the very first time I ever listened to one of his New Discourses Podcast. Then when I found out that he was just a few hours up the road from me in Knoxville, Tenn it all made sense why he was so smart but simple all at the same time. Appreciate his slight southern accent as well. Hats off to you Mr. Lindsey Sir!!!! 🇺🇲

What exposed to woke culture was because of Hollywood. My love for movies brought me here, and now I understand the roots. Thanks, James.

I’ve watched all three lectures and can’t wait to watch the next two. I really appreciate the in depth analysis and translation of all the literature. Without James doing this, it would be unbelievably difficult to review and interpret it all. Thank you for providing this to the world.

Equality
One day I wanted to bring my African girlfriend home but she first asked me if my mother would accept her. I told het that my mother was a leftie and a feminist and she considered all the people in the world the same. My girlfriend thought for a while and then she replied, ‘I am not like your mother’. I immediately laughed out loud, It was very nice to see her destroying all that white woke superiority with one expression of common sense.

James Lindsy, Bret Weinstien, and Jordan Peterson are the greatest minds in academia we have.

I've caught all 3 of these, not knowing there would be a subsequent lecture after each one. I just saw this was number 3 of 5!

😄☺️🥳

Goddammit, Lindsay is exactly the kind of guy I want breaking this shitty "theory" apart.

Can't wait for the next two, my dude!

My grandfather used to say "figures don't lie, but liars can figure". The truth is what some people believe even though it is false. A great example of this is that "we've always been at war in east

I studied national socialism here in Germany as a hobby for a long time a d was very delighted that you mentioned the hegelian dialectic. I couldnt really explain the deep similarities between wokeism but now I see so thank you

Thank you for dedicating so much of your life to expose this threat to freedom.

Dialectic of Enlightenment sounds awesome and I found myself nodding my head in agreement with Hegel's observations as you put them here.

I haven't paid attention to Hegel since I was a teenager, and now I see why I was digging it.

I think the power, the enormity, of communist ideology in the 20th century, and now into the 21st, is the right observation of creation, paired with the simple, mundane sin of rejection of its Creator.

It's the tactic of the serpent, to use the truth to tell a lie.

I really enjoy listening to (And taking notes on) your talks. I have had courses pursuing a pol/sci degree that have at least scratched the surface of all the philosophers you mentioned. (And many others not mentioned).

Just an aside; one of the main contributors I associate to the theory of ‘social contract’ is John Locke. (Jefferson took Locke’s phrase ‘pursuit of property’ and turned it to ‘pursuit of happiness’ to assuage the sensibilities of the largely unenfranchised common man). Locke was also an influencer of Rousseau.

This is great stuff. I wish the # of views was much higher, but at least it's out there. I went to Columbia University where Marcuse taught briefly b4 I arrived. I majored in Physics and got far less indoctrinated than most Columbia students, but my friends who majored in the humanities were well indoctrinated. I was by no means immune & I can see I also imbibed some of this worldview by "osmosis" bcuz I distinctly remember being convinced by a Political Speech on Campus that claimed that it was Conservatives who had argued in favor of Slavery by virtue of the fact that Slavery was an existing institution at the time & Conservatives are those who attempt to maintain the status quo. I've since learned better & apologize, dear readers, for being so easily misled. I also underestimated how influential were the crazier ideas which circulated on Campus. I thought it was just typical 20-something rebelliousness that my peers would grow out of. Boy was I wrong & I realized how wrong I was after I began to see how widespread the use of Howard Zinn had become in American High Schools. It then dawned on me that those ideas weren't simply the cherished beliefs of far left leaning rebellious college students, but instead were ideas being mainstreamed by Educational institutions, including those which choose which textbooks formed the worldview of the upcoming generations. That realization of mine goes way back into the late 90's & early 2000's. Now, the situation in our schools has become far worse, of course. BTW, one of my 2 best friends at Columbia was an English major who remains a literal Marxist (Trotskyist, of course) to this day. He works in the Harvard University Library System & is heavily involved in Union Activity. No surprise, there. The only surprise is how resistant older (people my age, aka 50's) Left of Center consumers of MSM are to the idea that radical/neo-Marxist ideas have become mainstream. How can they miss it? David Horowitz suggested it is simply bc they associate fear of Communism w the unsophisticated mentality of the Deplorables & they instinctively resist adopting any trait they associate with those they assume to be their inferiors.

Oddly enough but those who teach CRT and who companies hire into diversity executive positions and who promote DIE (diversity, inclusion, equity) and ESG are not hired using Equity criteria. In other words they are hired based on competence in the world of CRT, not based on affirmative action (racial, sexual, ethnicity criteria NOT ability) which is the old name for Equity.

Watching this and hearing about all the german philosophers in whose thoughts CRT is rooted almost makes me want to apologize for being german. A lot of great minds came from here, but boy, when we fuck up we REALLY fuck up

So, James, what can we do? I feel like we, like-minded people who are concerned about all of this, need our own movement. I vote for you, Jonathan Haidt, John McWhorter, Helen Pluckrose, Glenn Loury, Coleman Hughes, Brett Weinstein, Douglas Murray and all of the other great minds out there, to build a movement against CRT before it is too late.
