Heading North - Ep6 ⛰️ A Pacific Crest Trail Story - PCT Hike 2021 [Bear Encounter]

📅 June 22th, 2021 ▶️ I always wanted to have a wild bear encounter while hiking deep in the nature. No better place for that to happen than on the PCT California Section H in the Kings Canyon National Park, covering the most remote part of the Sierra Neva Mountain range along the Pacific Crest Trail / John Muir Trail! While being forced to rest up due to a foot injury on Day 15, the sun wakes me up mid day and a bear is walking by and then towards me to just 4-5m distance. An absolutely breath taking moment and my highlight on the PCT so far! I am also interviewing thru hiker ACDC and am climbing over three mountain passes in this video: Kearsarge Pass, Glenn Pass and Pinchot Pass - all of them offering majestic mountain views. Hopefully you like this video as much as I did! 😄

You should consider changing your shoes and start using trekking poles, that'll help you a lot. Hoka shoes are good for long distance hikes.

Camping near that bridge was the exact spot we had a bear approach our camp. It wasn't a baby though, it was massive. It was walking right into our camp but we were able to run him off

Sorry to hear about your foot and glad to hear you’ve discovered ibuprofen. Be careful not to overdo it — it’s in the same group of medicines with aspirin (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs—it’s likely that one of them was administered in the injection you received) that can cause internal bleeding. I hope your foot continues to heal.
That was an awesome video of your bear encounter.
You are correct that iron probably is what gives that mountain the reddish color. Some places in the eastern Sierra have the remnants of ancient volcanoes, and volcanic rock is often rich in iron. I don’t really know for sure what’s present at that location. Maybe one of your other viewers will have more information.
