I'm a 73 year old Oklahoman. Back when I was a young man didn't nobody worried about shaping a hat like you were a model in a beer commercial you just slapped it on your head and got to work. In my dad's and granddad's day you hardly ever saw a mirror unless you was home and your hat developed it's own "personality" as my father use to say.

Growing up in Mexico wearing a cowboy hat on the regular, no one ever questions if you are really a cowboy or not. It’s just not a thing. You just wear your hat and go about your day, looking good.

I grew up in the country but could never figure out why some guys get but hurt about somebody wanting to wear a cowboy hat, they are cool. I wear one sometimes because I like them not because I'm a cowboy.

I grew up running cattle. Had my first hat and boots before I could walk. And I'm rolling. Shaping the hat? I think I did that once in high school. For the last 30 years, the shape of my hat is how it came from the store and it living on my head.

Southerner here. You don't have to be a cowboy to wear a cowboy hat. It's absolutely stupid to act like only certain people can wear certain clothes. Wear it backward or even upside down if you want.

I had a mixed upbringing. I grew up in town. But my grandparents and all my cousins were country folk, spent a lot of time at the farm around hogs and goats, wheat fields and about 60 head of cattle. I had a hat and boots when I was younger. But as I got older I never wore western stuff. Until I did. I was working at a farm as a welder and more often than not was working the bosses cattle. Started bringing my Great Pyrenees to work with me to help heard them around. Started wearing boots again. Eventually hung up my ball cap for a cheap Justin straw hat. Eventually got some nice “wearin out boots” and a Stetson. I wouldn’t call myself a cowboy, but I can ride, rope and wrangle with my cousins who lived it their whole lives and grew up in the rodeo.

I don’t care who wears what. The more people with western wear on the better imo. If you do any kind of work outside a nice pair of boots and a straw hat will serve you well.

J.b Mauney is an absolute boss DOG as a bull rider. hope he is happy and healthy in retirement. He is tough as nails, i saw him ride many times and it was one of the most exciting things I've ever witnessed. He always rode the biggest and the baddest, they called him the DRAGONSLAYER for a reason. RESPECT 🤜
