10 Things Not to Do in Bermuda

Показать описание

Bermuda is an archipelago of 138 islands that are covered in pink, sandy beaches; specialty shopping; world-class cuisine; and beautiful golf courses. You might be eager to visit it, but take into account these 10 things NOT to do in Bermuda.

1. Don’t Try to Rent a Car
If you’re hoping you’ll be able to rent a car to zip around one of the islands, you’ll be out of luck. Bermudan law makes it illegal to operate a car without a Bermudan driver’s license.

2. Don’t Rent a Motorbike
If it’s your first time on one of these scooters, you might want to think it twice. Many local bus and taxi operators tend to exceed the speed limits on the roads, and they often switch lanes without any warning.

3. Don’t Forget to Try a Swizzle

This tasty concoction is made with Gosling’s Black Seal rum, Gosling’s Gold rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, grenadine, and Angostura bitters. A swizzle is then spun rapidly between your hands and inside the cocktail to give it a thick layer of frost.

4. Don’t Visit the Pink Sand Beaches

One of the most talked about attractions in Bermuda is its pink sand beaches. If you want to enjoy some peace and quiet on a less-hectic coastline, check out the quiet beach on Warwick Long Bay located on Bermuda’s South Shore instead.

5. Don’t Visit on a Tight Budget
You really shouldn’t expect to receive a discount on anything in Bermuda. Since everything has to be imported in, it’s all marked up to insanely high prices.

6. Don’t Touch the Portuguese Man of War
It’s known to float above the surface of the water. Below their purple bladders, they have polyps which contain long tentacles ranging from 30-150 feet long. They can inject venom, and in some cases, it can be fatal.

7. Don’t Stop by Royal Navy Dockyard
Adjacent to the cruise port, this area is full of expensive restaurants and pricey shops. However, if you travel just a few miles more, you’ll find more shops and restaurants that have decent prices.

8. Don’t Book a Budget Hotel
Many people advise visitors to stay at a bed and breakfast instead. The accommodations will be much cheaper, and if you’re traveling with a large group, a B&B will be less expensive per person.

9. Don’t Stay Off the Beaten Path
The islands are so spread out that it’s difficult to make your way from one end to the other. Far from the central locations, many buses stop infrequently, and a lot of the routes end around 7 PM every night. After that, there would only be expensive taxis.

10. Don’t Be Afraid of Sharks
There’s really no need to fear them. The two most common, Galapagos and Dusky sharks, don’t come very close to the shore. And, they’re relatively harmless. Bermuda is known for having a low amount of shark attacks.

Where do you want to know what not to do in next?

I’m a Bermudian and if this was my first introduction to the island, I don’t think I would want to come here for vacation. Yes, in terms of expense it is costly but you do get good value and a Bermuda experience is high on a lot of travelers bucket list. Don’t be discouraged, come visit my beautiful island. We will take great care of you.

just got back from Bermuda, loved it . yes expensive , if you don't want to spend the money don't . loved the pink sand beach. (horseshoe was very nice) cab fare was high, buses weren't available to me. we ate on the cruise ship we came over on, so i saved money that way. can't wait to visit again.

Some of these are stupid. For the Pink Sand Beach, if you visit in the winter or even early morning, you'll have the place to yourself. And the Navy Dockyard thing should say, "Don't SHOP at the Navy Dockyard" The other advices are good though, especially the budget traveler. Hamilton was named the most expensive city on earth. Even Bermuda buses cost $6. Don't go there unless you're ready to dish out some serious cash.

1)
That's dumb. There's NEVER been "car rentals" in Bermuda. People from other countrys drive MUCH FASTER than the 25 MPH speedlimit in Bermuda. They would be "unsafe". Plus, we're British. We drive on 'other side' of the lane.

2)
That's also dumb. 10s of thousands of tourist have rented motorbikes. Sometimes they do hurt themselves cause they are not good at it, but they are given the absolute slowest bikes possible. Usually, after a few hours on day one, they are competent enough.

3)
Rum swizzle isn't the only local dish. Good grief that is short sighted! Instead of "rum swizzle, " ask for LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED restaurants. Go there for the best foods.

4)
Go to whatever beach you want. PLENTY to choose from, and they are all pretty much "pink sand, " especially the ones on the South side.

5)
DEFINATELY! Bermuda is not the place you want to go if you are a "low income" person.

6)
Uh...you have to TELL someone to NOT touch a seasonal JELLYFISH (found mostly on the NORTH sure)? Really? So … what do you tell people visiting Florida? To not put their hands on the tongue of an alligator?

… next …

7)
… Dockyard is boring anyway. And Somerset town isn't half the size. But it STILL makes for a good field trip and sightseeing tour.

8)
Hotels. This banks off of #5. If you have the cash to spend, stay at Southampton Princess or Hamilton Princess (if you want to be in the 'capital'). Otherwise, I like the Warf, just outside of Hamilton (seen at 2:40).

9)
{shrug shoulders} Is ANYWHERE in Bermuda "off the beaten path"?

10)
OMG!!! Now I know this guy is crazy! The reason Bermuda has a low count of shark attacks is because the Island is WARNED when sharks are sighted and the news spreads quickly! People aren't stupid. They get OUT and are extra CAUTIOS when the warning is made! Please don't go diving into the water to pet a shark just because this NON-BERMUDIAN is telling ya'll something crazy!

There aren't many shark sightings anyway.

#5 is the only thing in this list that actually makes any real sense. Bermy is expensive. Don't expect American prices. But if you're OK to spend $9 on a burger (no, not a burger AND fries WITH a drink), then you probably have enough money for a vacation to Bermuda. :-) Enjoy!

This is pure comedy gold. I sure how the tourists don't actually rely on this video to make a decision. It's terrible.

I been on a vacation in Bermuda and all this stuff is wrong except for the creature one and you missed another thing not to do in Bermuda. DRIVE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD!!! In Bermuda you have to drive on the left side of the road. Not right side. You should have added that in the video.
