HOW TO GET TO THE LOOKOUT 🌅
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯

Park your car or walk to the service station linked below. From here it takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the lookout.

Then walk along the highway about 50 metres, till you see a gap in the fence at the coordinates below
40.998586610767035, -3.6371769812830355

Then keep following the path down to the stream, and walk along the river (with the stream to your right), until you reach a small footbridge at the coordinates below
41.00013508621735, -3.6359745269196995

Cross it, and walk up the hill. The key is to keep walking up the hill until you get to the lookout at the linked location below. As you walk up the hill you will need to climb over or walk through the gab in a stone wall.

This area is new to me. I've never been there. I knew of the Civil War fighting in the mountains around Madrid but I never realized the Sierra de Madrid countryside was so well-forested & beautiful. Thanks for showing me.

It's like Madrid city has it's own Swiss Alps around the corner, such an overlooked part of Madrid by so many.

La calidad de vuestros vídeos ha mejorado muchísimo, y el contenido es más variado.
La Comunidad de Madrid (y las demás) os debería patrocinar este tipo de vídeos. Son geniales.
Great job!

By the way guys.
What a great channel, where interested persons get to see what life is like in Spain and not just the typical monuments.
I really appreciate a Kiwi informing people about the beautiful country that is Spain as so many people in New Zealand and Australia still confuse Esoaña with places like Guatemala.
Olé tus cojones James.
Y Yoli, muy agradecido.
Parecéis una pareja super agradable.

Cercedilla is amazing. You can take the bus 694 from Moncloa station with your Abono. Also the Cercania goes there. It's absolutely refreshing to go there every once in a while after being stuck in the city.

I lived in Madrid, year 1971, exiled from Cuba and very little money. Friends organized a trip, cheap enough I could participate rented bus etc. We went to El Monasterio de Piece as, I understand is a National Park, just gorgeous. Then went to Zatagoza, virgin Polar. GREAT memories.

Who's been to Madrid's mountains? We'd love to know your favourite villages or spots. Maybe we can make a video back there in summer, when instead of snow, it's all about watering holes and waterfalls :)

My father met Ernest Hemingway back in the fifties in El Escorial, where he spent his youth summers. We treasure a coaster from the “Alaska” caferia personally signed to

The old train ride out to Avila is spectacular after a snowfall. If visiting the northern hills from Madrid, normally best to avoid weekends and puentes when the crowds turn up.

I'm so glad that you did this video. I have a photo taken in those same snowy mountains that surround Madrid from December of 98, that if you were to look at you would think was taken in the Canadian Rookie Mountains of Alberta during ski season. This is one of my favorite videos that you have done. I have some great memories of those few Christmas holidays that I spent there in Madrid.

The ruins that appear on minute 3:32 is the ancient paper factory, in Rascafría, near the Paular Monastery. They said that the paper used to print the first edition of Quijote came from this factory, which was one of the most important in Europe at the time. One important battle field of the civil war in the Alto de León where you can still see the old bunkers, stone walls and traces of trenches.

When we lived in Canillejas when I was a young teenager, my family's trips to Navacerrada for sledding and skiing were the best. I loved going up in the summer to play and hike with my dad in los bosques. We're originally from Michigan and though we don't have many mountains in Michigan, we definitely missed trees and running streams while we lived in Madrid. When my wife (who also lived in Spain as a teenager) and I visited last year, we made it a point to visit Navacerrada (snow hadn't made it all the way down yet to our dissapointment) on our way to Segovia.
