I like 7018's for the most part, except for the slag inclusions, the thick slag and difficult starts, but this one is a good one to know how to use and is a close second favorite. I like the thin slag and fast freezing action, but I don't like how the flux catches fire

Thanks for sharing your videos, it would help me to know your settings, I tried 6011, my welds are burning through, and why 3 passes, thanks again.

Farmers rod? I been a welder/fabricator/heavy equipment repairman among several other metalworking and mechanical related skilled jobs since i was teenager in late 90s and EVERY shop ive ever worked at used 6011 1/8" and 7018 1/8" as their 2 main heavy equipment/structural steel repai rods so im used to them. Never worked on a farm or heard them called farmers rods though. They are your best friend if your layin in the dirt in the middle of nowhere either freezin or fryin in the heat tryin to burn through rusty steel that and u need it repaired NOW and they are again my rod of choice when i have to weld across huge gaps or anytime im welding a root pass then i hot pass with 7018. I thought 6013 were farm and amateur rods. Almost every shop i ever worked at had a can or 2 but no one ever used them.

I'm not professional but I try to get it done, I have to go up in a crane basket tomorrow morning and weld a patch on a huge grain elevator pipe probably 120 ft or more in the air. The thing is I hate galvanized surley I'll get better over time uggg with 6011 rods..

Any tips?

6011 is for fighting arc blow. Unless your transformer welder can provide a big enough charge able to overload 6010

If this video is for beginners the 6011 rod should NOT be used. 6011 sticks too much on A.C. The 7014 rods is much easier to use without as much sticking. I gave the last bunch of 6011 away, good riddance. This is not up for debate as I have found what I wrote to be true on every AC welder I have used since 46 years ago. Just wire brush the area to be welded. Not that hard to do.
