Years ago while in Spain we went to a small house that had several ladies working there (in the late 70s it was part of a short lived Village Enterprise) They were painting the faces, rooting the hair, and dressing these beautiful dolls. As a kid, I was fascinated. I was a young artist, and I loved it there. I remember the scents of the dolls. The vinyl had a scent mixed into it. I'm not sure, but, I think Lavender, Vanilla, and Rose were being used then. The ladies used to do around 300 dolls a week, the lorry would drop them off as 'blanks' and a week later pick them up completed and boxed. It only lasted around a year. The companies got bigger to meet the demand of tourists and Spanish children, and to bring down prices to sell more. So these sweet back street people were closed down. I remember falling in love with one. When we got home, my uncle had bought one and had it shipped to Britain. Sadly, I lost her to a house fire a few years ago, and because she was a special, I've never seen one painted like her. I recognise the sculpt a common one from the 70s. I have another question: was there any period of time you stopped collecting dolls like teenage or youth years or you are doing this non stop? I bet you never did. I was not raised gaining dolls unfortunately so when I grew up I forgot about dolls but always love them. Couldn't see myself playing with them until last year, even tho I got my first doll, a Barbie, 10 years ago. Now I can't see myself without my dolls😄💖.
