We were sailing through violent weather off the coast of Tasmania when we felt a huge shudder throughout the entire ship. We were hit by a series of waves and swells that were so massive and strong the caused the hull to breach! We had to head to the Sydney shipyards for three weeks of repairs. Most extreme seas I've ever experienced in 35 years as a mariner

Brings back memories of my time working on the fishing trawlers off the North West Coast of Ireland. Those were the days young free and single but you have to be to do that job. I take my hat off and bow to all sailors that brave these waters in all weather's to keep our supply chains going and shops full. Thoughts with all the sailors that were lost to the sea. ❤️

My brain was oxygen free for at least five minutes, and that’s with my mouth wide open. These monster ships can take anything. WOW!!

I was in the Navy in 1966. My squadron was on an aircraft carrier. We were on our way home from Vietnam. Between Japan and Midway Island we ran in to a Typoon. We had winds of 150 MPH and waves 80 foot high. From the flight deck to the water was 90 feet. Waves were coming over the bow. Water was going as high as the 011 deck. That was the bridge. Some times our screws would come out of the water. You could feel them shake the ship. We could only do 5 knots to steer the ship.

The lengths of these vessels are sometimes spanning from one wave to the next! Very hard on the spine of the ship!

That ship actually has to flex with each wave sometimes they flex too much and they crack or break up that wouldn't be fun out there if it gets broken

At 8:38 is a North Sea Supply Boat with a Helicopter Landing Deck. You can easily see the legs / stanchions sticking up, welded to the deck, on the bow.

Brings back memories of my time at see, these sort of conditions were regular and you learn to accept it as part of your life

Would be better if that background music wasn't there

Wow! That scared the hell out of me! Btw, the background music doesn’t bother me, I just mute it.

I wish you didn't play that music. The sounds of the ship, and the wind, are all music these amazing clips need.

Stress fractures will be all over these ships! How lonely is this scene? Help will never get there soon enough!

Nothing will TOP the Edmund Fitzgerald in my opinion, she may have sank but gave it everything she had and almost made it to whitefish point
