Nintendo announced a bunch of games at their recent Direct and with some varying opinions I wanted to look at something that just isn't normal for a system this far into its life.

Nintendo supporting physical media is a plus too.

Nintendo understands the essence of gaming is fun, not pushing pixels.

The switch truly was Saturu Iwata's dream, and it's a tragedy he didn't get to see the system single-handedly revive Nintendo.
We used to complain about no wallpapers and folders, imagine how much MORE personality the switch would have with him still around.

The Switch is different because it's the first time in 30+ years that Nintendo is supporting a single system.
Having all their studios and partners developing games for the same platform is a game changer, this is why the Switch library is insane and just keeps growing. The only reason Nintendo stopped ruling the industry in the late 90s and let Sony take over was because they were diluting their efforts across two different markets at the same time. They were succeeding at both, but at the cost of losing the crown in the console space.

Nintendo combining their handheld and home console was one of the best decisions they’ve made. Now we got all those games on one console and it’s awesome. We’re getting the handheld-like games this year with Zelda and M&L, and most people love the handheld-like games too. So for fans, it’s a win. That’s part of the reason why even in its 8th year, Switch is still delivering new first party games. As long as Nintendo is still selling a lot of software, they can afford to wait on Switch 2 and it seems like all these newly announced games will do well.

Remember when before the Switch launched, so many said it was gonna flop so hard? And all of the videos of defective units and people freaking out?
Times changed quickly

Nintendo has such a strong line up this year that it’s hard to think of this as being the final dedicated year for Switch.

This is NOT normal, but it SHOULD be the new normal. Consoles can give so much more than companies give them credit for. Xbox Series X and PS5 could give us SO MUCH more for years to come but we ball know they wont even begin to touch the limit of their potential.

The Switch’s lifespan is double the Wii U’s. Dang…

I really hope the next Nintendo console is backwards compatible with the Switch’s library of games. I don’t want to have to start over on a new console.

Nintendo could reveal the new console on March 31, 2025 and it would still be in "this fiscal year" since their FY starts on April 1.

Gaming is not about visuals but substance. It's only a plus. Like always, artistic style always ages better.

Imagine holding not having Madden or CoD against a platform.

This isn't a swan song, it's a full out orchestra!

It is wild that the NFL doesn’t make them put Madden on the Switch. That’s an insane amount of money on the table. I don’t know how shareholders let them get away with it

I will die on this hill: Links Awakening art-style is not only underrated but deserves none of the hate it gets. Honestly that style drives me to the new game much more than had it been a realistic top down style or pixel art. Nothing is wrong with pixel art, especially on retro games, but LA art style is clean, runs well on the switch, and makes me feel like a kid playing Zelda again.

Considering the state of the economy in the west right now I think it's smart for Nintendo to delay a switch successor as long as possible. Right now most people can't afford to spend more money on a brand new gaming console. If they launched in a rough economy there's a good chance it would have soft launch sales and after the Wii u I don't think they want to risk that

Something that doesn’t get mentioned enough: because it’s going into its eight year, there are kids just now being old enough to play games. Kids born literally on launch day. There are new customers for the Switch aging into the platform as we speak. The Switch 2 may be on its way, but Christmas is too and there are going to be some very happy kids playing their first console before 2025 and it’s likely to be the Switch.

People got so used to consoles having no games that the switch is now "not normal".

What if this IS the new normal? What if companies could make consoles that are still prosperous and relevant 7, 8, 9 years afterrelease? What if the game industry was pushed by games and not hardware?
What if I weren't mad?
