Hi, welcome to ShuoshuoChinese 说说中文; my name is Shuo, I’m a native Chinese teacher living in Bangkok, Thailand, I’ve been teaching Chinese as a foreign language for seven years and I’m also a language learner.
In this channel, I will upload a weekly video, in which I talk about Chinese vocabulary, Chinese grammar, Chinese culture, Chinese stories with pinyin and the English translation for listening practice.
With my channel, you can easily start to learn and understand complicated Chinese grammar, sentence structure, and differences/nuances between similar Chinese words.
If you are a Chinese beginner, I’m planning to upload videos about what Chinese language is, how it differs from English, Chinese pronunciations, Chinese characters and Chinese stroke sequences and a mini Chinese course, (10 minutes per day), which can help you learn quickly and easily. Don’t miss it!

So, subscribe to my channel and start your Chinese learning journey!

Well, i usually learn a new language using the following methods
1 - first of all i need basic grammar structures to make some easy sentences
2 - to learn new words i make some sentences, if i can not memorize words i make funny sentences, so it helps me
3 - i use words i learnt in my conversation with Chinese ppl or talking to my self, so i will memorize it faster
4 - after learning some grammar points and words, don't repeat them for 3 days then u will see what u forgot and what u should focus on
5 - study 30 mins day is better than 2 hours a week
I hope it will help someone :3
Oh and never use one resource to learn a language, like shuo shuo said, don't count on ur teacher completely, ur teacher can show u how to learn, but u must do it by yourself as well
Love u guys, and never give up :3
Thank u shuo shuo for the video, i also hope u will be independent and all ppl who watch u will speak Chinese fluently :3

Hey, you scrolled past my current tutor on that list!

I really like taking lessons with a tutor. My Chinese is quite awful, but it gets me speaking. I tried the language exchange apps to find a partner, but most will just talk in English or not talk at all. It takes so long to find anyone who really wants to practice. If you can afford it, I really recommend a tutor. If you have a good self-study routine, you don't need to spend big money on a professional teacher. You just need someone who will let you practice speaking for your hour. Someone who will come up with a topic and encourage you to speak more and more.

4:58 ¨quel e palece la cucalasha¨ xD you made my day, by the way I use Yoyo Courses and they are the best!, I studied by myself chinese by free content then after few months decided to pay for intermediate courses, right now I spend more time watching movies, series and any content for chinese community in order to improve my reading or at least practice the characters.

Yeah I've had a teacher since 2008 and I always get asked this. "Oh Can you teach me" I always say, No I wouldn't teach myself or teach anyone pay a native speaker to teach you or get some lessons from someone who knows how to teach the language properly. Totally agree.

Shuo, this is so helpful! I've been learning Mandarin on my own with an app for a while now, but your videos have encouraged me to look into getting a tutor as soon as my schedule is freed up again in a few months. I will definitely look at the teachers on italki :)

Hi Shuo
Thank you very much for this video. I live in London, UK.
I've been learning Chinese now for about half a year. My main tools are YouTube videos, including lot's of yours and watching Chinese TV dramas. I've got by now acquired a fair amount of vocabulary, but I just am not confident enough to build sentences. I've got a Chinese girlfriend, from the Sichuan province, but I'm just not confident to talk to her in Chinese. Until now that was OK, but we've now made concrete plans to go to China next year, and I have to, have to step up the game as I want to be able to talk to her family, including and most importantly asking her big brother for his sister's hand in marriage. And I must do this in Chinese as none of her family speaks English. So thanks to your suggestion I shall use italki and ideally find a native speaker from the Sichuan province to learn Chinese and hopefully soon speak Chinese with confidence.
As a side note I've seen many of your videos and have found them very useful. Thank you.

Another great video Shuo Laoshi!
I would to take lessons, but have gone down the self taught route, which takes longer. But, would be much longer if not for you, Yoyo, Everyday, Mandarin Corner et al.
I hope you all get more subs, and can make enough to make more great films for us learners!

This is how I learn.
I honestly think pronounciation is like the basics. Knowing the difference will help you distinguish, help you hear words, and help you communicate with people, easily.
Then some sentence structure.
Learn words, talk to people, watch shows, read books, listen to songs, and play games with chinese.

you are the best! I have a frustrating experience. Not knowing where to begin or hitting a plateau can feel demoralizing and make it hard to hit the books and study like you know you should…Having friends from other cultures makes me more creative. In fresh ways about space and how people create their own world and environment. It is best way to connect between creative thinking and cross-cultural relationships.

Thank you for your advice! Yes, a good teacher is essential! Each learner has a different way of learning. In my case I first teach myself a new language, even a difficult language like Mandarin. First I do some good planning and stick to it with discipline. Suppose that I am learning a song. I will first study every word, repeat it as if it were a prayer. Then I'll write and memorize every character of the song. Now I am ready for my private teacher who will help me with that specific song and show me those words in specific contexts. And, of course, the teacher will give me homework on that very topic. As the Chinese saying goes: “师父领进门,修行靠个人”, "No gain, no pain". Tha

Thanks for the interesting video! I think, italki is treating their teachers not in the best way possible. italki deduces quite a big amount of each(!) lesson fee and even charges a lot of extra for handling different currencies. They don't even make it mandatory for teachers (and their students of course) to have proper breaks. So - yes, it's possible to find a cheap and probably good teacher with italki, but it comes with the downside of bad conditions for the teachers.
