It seems to me like the Tesla bulls always make it sound like it's supercharging or swapping. When in reality NIO can do both. Like you mentioned, there are so many more benefits to swapping than just replenishing the energy in the pack. I have been an EV driver in Canada for over 4 years. I have had many conversations with other EV drivers about swapping technology. I can honestly say I have never talked to anyone that would prefer a vehicle that can only charge versus a vehicle that can charge and or swap. Flexibility is king. Thanks Marcel.

The advantages only become clear when the disadvantages of fix batteries manifest themselves. And that's only when the number of EVs increases. Grid stability has only recently been seen as a problem that can become huge in the future.
In the Netherlands grid operator Stedin calls on operators to turn off charging stations for electric cars between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. This would be necessary to relieve the overcrowded power grid a bit in those hours. Already now!
And who wants to buy a second-hand Tesla whose battery warranty has expired or if the new Tesla has a solid state battery and your lithium ion battery Tesla is no longer allowed into the parking garage? Or doesn't pass the Chinese inspection?

I think the ability to swap a battery rather than have your older cars battery die out is an obvious advantage....more will adapt swapping abilities in the coming years

I’m sure the guy with the very first gas station had difficulty getting them built as well. When people realized it was profitable more got on board more partnerships we’re developing. Various improvements over the years with a convenience store style , then adding restaurants, etc. As a consumer I would not buy an EV without battery swap. One day the current companies with gas stations will decide to build swap stations. It’s inevitable.

I think the idea is to build power storage stations that are profitable on their own, that can also perform battery swapping. What can electricity storage stations do? You can buy at night and sell during the day, you can also prevent power outages. In the future, when we use solar panels, we will need it even more, because some of the time there are clouds and no electricity is used.

The advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Yes, the buildout of swap stations requires lots of cash up front, but that's just reality of the transformation to a new technology. It has been validated by NIO imo. Indeed, NIO has created a moat. I believe that they will show that swapping will give them a very good roi very soon.

I agree with you. At that time Tesla was cash crunch. Even if battery swap might have long term benefit, it's simply not urgent nor affordable. Elon made a right executive decision at that time. Nio came in at different maturity of the EV movement with different capital and political structure. I think both Musk and Li made rational decisions.

100%. The timing wasn't right, or the country for that matter. We now have more demand on the grid and fsd which battery swap ties into nicely. I just read a 2014 tesla article about potentially swapping in 1 minute. 3 minsnis quick enough but qho knows what the future holds. Battery swapping is here to stay, I've no doubt about that.

Someone said 50 swaps per site(daily)as break even point.So 2 × 24hrs = 48 ...I didn't understand that as an issue. Considering the traffic at gas stations in perspective. Thanks Marcel 😊

China's housing is much different then US. Not really needed here as with China it's necessary as most live in residential hi rises. And alike, I do think for US taxi type cars would benefit from the swapping

At that time, Tesla has very limited battery swapping station thus it was not significant to have battery swapping service . Not cost effective.

Maybe tesla s investors did not want it. Costly, needs battery maintenance....for a small numbers of users at That Time. So not good for share holders

Batteries in battery swap stations can double up as electrical energy frequency regulation and battery swap for EV. It is more efficient than the Tesla's separate battery for their energy business and the EV business.
I imagine a vertical container at the back of a battery swap station that can store GWhr of energy. Vertical container is to reduce urban footprint.

In a cold climate country, attending s gas pump for a few minutes is an uncomfortable experience. A battery swap drive-through, able to stay warm is a god send.

Nio is a three in one company.

I have shares in both companies.Both are awesome companies.I think the resale value on NIO cars will do much better than tesla.
