J.S. Bach: Piano Concerto in A, BWV 1055 - 1. Allegro (Synthesized)

Like the musical talent of the Bach family, many of Johann Sebastian's compositions went through several generations. It was a common 18th-century practice for composers to rework their own music (and that of others, in those pre-copyright days) to fill a new need. Among the best-known of such pieces in the Bach canon are the concertos for harpsichord, all of which seem to be arrangements of some of his earlier music, much identified, some conjectured. The Third and Seventh Concertos, for example, are arrangements of the E major and A minor Violin Concertos; the Sixth corresponds to the Fourth Brandenburg. Bach needed these pieces in harpsichord/orchestra form for the programs of the Leipzig Collegium Musicum, a public concert-giving organization whose direction he assumed soon after arriving in Leipzig in 1723. Bach or one of his talented sons was soloist at the keyboard for many of those regular Friday concerts held at a local coffee house.

The harpsichord concertos were based on works Bach wrote for his duties at the court of Anhalt-Cöthen between 1717 and 1723, where he was responsible for the instrumental rather than the sacred music. Most of the model works were originally for solo violin, but the esteemed English musicologist Sir Donald Tovey showed that the 4th Concerto in A major (BWV 1055) was written originally for oboe d'amore, an ancestor of the modern English horn.

The opening movement of the concerto (Allegro moderato) begins with a vivacious orchestral ritornello whose "returns" ("ritornelli" in Italian), like the supporting pillars of a cathedral, give the form both its structure and its name. Between the columns of the ritornelli, like sparkling stained glass windows, the solo instrument develops a complementary motive. The regular phrases, disposed in eight-measure blocks, give this movement a dance-like quality.

I developed simple sounds for this piece to give the essence of the intrument qualities rather than trying to duplicate them (much like the early works of Wendy Carlos). I wanted this to have a very analog Moog feel to it.

Awesome! The description is really informative as well; I didn't know that this was originally written for Oboe d'amore

Puhzz It is beautiful.
The performance of the 1:3 neighborhoods was impressed very much.
The feeling which has put the body on the musical deep bottom was felt.

As always, your music hits the top of the chart with your synthesizer arrangements. I can’t imagine what Bach would think of these arrangements, but if he doesn’t like them, he is crazy! I have listened to most all of You arrangements of Bach and they are sensational! You are always very gifted in whatever you play. I continue to be very proud of your awesome ability to play the way you do man. Continue to stay gifted in all that you endeavor to play in the near future. Your versions of Handel and Scarlatti are also awesome! You are an awesome musician and always will be. Very soothing and peaceful.

Are there any better way to learn how to use a synthesizer?
What I am doing now is just turning the knobs to experiment with different sounds through different parameters.

Hey Bro. Carey, I know you had said that you weren’t religious, but God gave me a Word for you. As He did, I thought about, as I continue to listen to your awesome music, how you could not play such magnificent and sensational music the way you do unless the Hand of Almighty God was on it! Bach, himself, would sign after all he wrote his masterpieces, “To the Glory of God Alone! He knew his work was coming straight from the Throneroom of God. Your ability to play such authentic synthesizer music could come from nowhere except from God! You, Bro. Carey are, without a doubt the most anointed synthesizer performer this old preacher has been honored to listen to! You bless me everytime I listen to you play man. I want to be sure that you have, sometime in your life asked Jesus Christ to come into your heart and save you so when it comes your time to leave this earth, you will be in Heaven with Him. I especially want to meet you when we get there and say thank you my friend! God loves you very much Bro. Carey. You could not have performed the song from Handel’s Messiah taken from Isaiah 9:6-7 if you did not know the Lord. That is one of the most anointed masterpieces ever written.. I eventually want to hear you perform the Hallejuah Course on the synthesizer! It will be an awesome Bach-Meltz masterpiece! Bro. Carey, you will always be an inspiration to me everytime I listen to your videos man. Your fans love you very much. You have made a great impression to the music world out there. Again, you are a fine, fine, awesome young man and the most awesome musican anybody would be honored and blessed to know! Be so blessed in all that you do. Read Psalms 139 and see just what God thinks about you man. It will change your life dude. Blessings to you man!
