How to Do a Spin | MJ Dancing

Alright you guys, what's going on? We are going to get into the Micheal Jackson spins or spin. So, the first thing we want to do is get the preparation for the spin happening. So what you're going to do is your prep. You're going to step on both feet. But what ever direction your turning you want to have both feet go to that direction. If you want to start to your right, and go here, ha. So when you prep, you're going to jump with both feet, ha. Take the foot cross, ha. And that's where you are.

Lets do that again. So I'm turn to my left. So I'm going to prep. Cross, then I turn. Now for you people who are spotter, or technical dancers, if you want to do two turns you may want to spot. So what I mean by spotting is.. Spot spot. Checking out your direction. Now Micheal doesn't spot. He just goes. Then it's up to you. I like to spot just for verification purpose. Yeah, there's your spin.

Sorry, but that's not MJ spin.You should not spin on your heels, one foot is on heel and the other one is on toe.

i learned to turn without spotting as well... so far it worked for me

For all those saying they get nauseous, heres my 2 cents. Keep in mind im not a dancer so take this with a grain of salt. Keeping your head in the direction of the spin will greatly increase your dizziness and the like. Having it tilt in the oppisite direction will decrease this greatly. Might be worth a try.

But how do you get the momentum for the second turn without resetting your feet? Once your feet come together after the first spin, it looks like spinning on both heels, no longer using the pivot to guide the turn. Trying to get the double spin down for the thriller dance. please help

I think after right foot merge w/ the left, he'd spinning on the ball of left foot w/ right foot hovering, keeping the spin non spot, that's harder than spinning on the heel.
