Ochsenkopf 638 H-3509 Splitting Maul-3 day review.

Will do a video of the repair. Great maul. Just a little a tune up and we will have back in action.

You will here me say in the video “I’m not going to pull your leg I split most of my wood by hand” what I meant to say is I split mostly with the splitter.

I do use maul, axes and wedges for splitting big rounds to make them more manageable for loading on the truck and the hydraulic splitter. Also use them in the winter due to the fact everything is in storage

I like that they incorporate that steel haft protector at the top, right under the socket. But I’ve been seeing that Oxhead does have a bit of a problem when it comes to wood selection for the overall haft. They seem to not care all that much about selecting the parts of the trees with good grain structure and ring orientation. Makes sense, since these products are mass produced for tradesmen in the logging/forestry services, and their price points are relatively mid range in that market. That, and they still use enough wood to give the bottom of the haft a palm swell. But you’re right, that plate they try to use to cap the top of the haft into the socket is completely unnecessary and seemingly counterproductive.
