Space Quest... on the Game Boy Advance?!

An unofficial Game Boy Advance interpreter lets you play Sierra AGI games on... well, the Game Boy Advance. I took Space Quest I and II for a spin, and here's how that turned out.

Check out my full playthroughs of SQ1 and SQ2 on the GBA here:

2:48 Ah, but it is! Right below afix. They managed to misspell affix though

Brian Provinciano... Oh, OH! Yeah, that makes sense. That's the guy who made the Retro City Rampage games, which started out as a NES port of Grand Theft Auto. His passion is cramming games onto hardware where it doesn't belong.

3 hours of new SQ content from the SQH? I did have things I was supposed to do today, but that’s not fucking happening now.

3:15 - "key" is actually a verb, it means to drag your key along someone's car to scratch the paintwork

I'm so happy you covered this one, dude! This is the version of Space Quest I had when I was small, and it's how I found your channel in the first place, by looking for content for this very game!

I've had this video on loop for the past two weeks! I've tried closing the tab but "close" doesn't work for some reason!

(also, great work on this one. Very interesting look at a bizarre version of the game. Absolutely loved it!)

I remember this. I played it on my GBA flash card when I was in college.

Fun Fact: Brian Provinciano developed Retro City Rampage and Shadown: Hawaii!

Seems like a really neat proof of concept at this state. Pretty sure those bugs you talked about can be hammered out relatively easily with just a bit of polish

These kinds of projects are one of the best things about the internet age. The GBA library is still growing, and is one of the best collections of any console today.
The close bug is game breaking, but I have faith it will be patched by someone.

Dang, that's how SQ1 sounded on our 8086 internal speaker....

Ah yes, GBAGI. The beginning of the end of SCI Studio's development.

8:10 - Watching your 2nd-channel SQ2 playthrough video, none of the commands you tried work in the PC version, either. I bet "*sling rock man*" or "*throw rock jock man*" would've worked in the GBA version.

Man I love emulation. As a nerdy 13 year old who couldn't afford a console and only had my country's free 14k dialup in the early 2000s, abandonware games were my life and I would have missed out on so many classics if not for my shitty desktop (with high tech frozen peas cooling system) and an emulator.

the GBA had battery save carts so yes savegames were a thing, (even pokemon has a battery save, so its been around for gameboys from the start). Its just probaly not implemented but yes battery saves exist and even emulators do support them.

Idk why some crazy fella who's been smoking one too many mary janes would make a port of old AGI games to the GBA... But I love them for it and I thank them for this bizarre port.

Maybe should show this off to Stop Skeletons From Fighting who's shown off so many bizarre games, it maybe not 3D on GBA but this is still very impressive.

I've had a crazy idea of making a old 80s style sierra adventure game demake of Resident evil 1 with events of the game being more abridged removing some rooms and changing the gameplay to be more focus on puzzles than action.

As input method they should test to use standard T9. A lot quicker and more reliable and it can work perfectly.

On a phone you press on of the 9 buttons to enter the next prediction letter / word.

Here you do similar. You press the d paint in any of the numbers 12346789 and confirm the letter input with A button. To get 5 you just don’t press the d pad just press A

So you have same quick access as most mobile phones and remember how quick we where writing on those.

So if think with such implementation it would be great. You could even add snazzy features as cycle left and right of the propane’s word list with shoulder buttons or X y and use B to erase the latest letter.

So it would lead to super fast typing and you could type just as you did on a normal keyboard plus you also have the word prediction on top. Making it go even faster.
