Elon is dead right about education. I was one of those kids who just believed he couldn't do mathematics. Completely sucked at it. In my thirties gained a huge interest in artificial intelligence and had to learn linear algebra, calculus, probability and statistics and I picked it up easily. The difference between now and then is that now I am applying it to a real problem and I am applying the math to something concrete. Trying to learn/memorise abstract concepts with no context surrounding them and no understanding of their purpose is futile for a lot of people.

8:35 RE: Education. That's why Elon created a super exclusive school which also teaches his 5 kids called Ad Astra. It's close to his house in Bel Air. Would love to see the curriculum of that place and methods they use.

Thanks for the report on Elon at IAC. Elon's optimism about Mars travel and settlement appears to be getting tempered with doses of reality. It will happen someday but will be harder than anyone knows at this time.

Nice reporting guys. The US public education is in deep trouble. I find it offensive they always have money for oil wars but can't fund enough money into schools so kids can have more hands on learning... shop class should be required for all students not just for guys who sign up. If we want to be the brightest population on the planet here in the USA we need a higher standard of knowledge. Why isn't the abacus taught here for example? It's like the George Carlin bit about how they don't actually want a well educated public who are clever enough to sit around the kitchen table and figure out who's screwin them, they want obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork and not ask any questions.
